Finally getting some more time in, on day 4.

Although with multiple paths that doesn't seem like enough of a specification..

Got the Ota End.

This is a game where, if I didn't have to work or took time off or something like that, I would literally do nothing other than play this and do standard required bodily activities until it was done.

Inspector Kagami x Fire Emblem Gatekeeper is the power couple of the year.

I finished the game so I have thoughts of a spoilery nature that I cannot disclose yet.

There's definitely a dialog tree later on in one of the routes that's super blatant.

it was very good

Plot got a bit silly once the body swapping reveal hit, but after thinking on it it's not significantly sillier than the other stuff Uchikoshi has written so whatever. Very highly enjoyable other than that

Aiba > Boss > Date > Iris > Mizuki > Moma >> Mama > Hitomi > Ota > Pewter > Minor characters and people not ranked. First six are all great though

The only thing I'm left wondering about is (this one isn't really a plot spoiler, but still) why they made Mizuki a hyper-mature/literal superpowered 12 year old. Seems like literally the only time it was relevant was for "dude she's an elementary schooler lmao" jokes and to give an excuse for Hitomi to restore her voice in the route where Date failed to do so and she could've easily just been 16 or 18 and not left me constantly thinking "why did the writers make this character LOL"

Trophy question:

(trophy name) Protect Your Head

I just wore the pot in #89's psync and had earlier worn the basket in the very first somnium, but the trophy didn't pop. Is this bugged or is there another place I have to wear it? Or something else?

Separately, I haven't been able to find any of the hidden items since the first somnium... is there a location list somewhere (or does anyone know where any of the others are?)

You can this by doing the pot in #89's and spoilers if you don't want to know about other somniums, there's a bucket you have to wear in psyncin in the sustain / mayumi's somnium

I beat the game and got the platinum earlier today so I remember some but probably not all of the hidden items if there's specific ones you want to ask about.

Mizuki: This also unlocks another trophy. Lift the fridge, examine and choose the only option on the pot, and the hidden item should appear where adorabbit used to be on top of the speaker.

#89: I believe this was on one of the bookcases/shelves in the corner of the room after lock #3. I just stumbled on this one by accident by hitting x in the general area, I don't recall if it was easily visible

Got Mizuki's ending

Really liked Date's somnium. Mizuki is really great. I assume the meal is dependent on what food Date says they'll get right before Mizuki's somnium, though iirc only three of the four are listed as things she likes in her profile... maybe I should check what happens if you switch to the other.

Some questions still remaining from this path: So made a comment about being Date's father (unless I misunderstood something), and then it was just never commented on by Date or Mizuki. Seems like it would be kinda a big deal! I also don't buy that he's the New Cyclops Killer. All of the clues seemed to be pointing to Ota's mom being the polar bear (including the bear holding the floral knife), though I'm guessing that's a misdirect as well.

Otas ending get

I was a bit surprised they were able to make me care about Mayuri and Ota (particularly since the latter is such a little shit like 75% of the time), but they did it! Otas dad also has a pretty cartoony design that seems out of place, but I liked him too. At the end, we find out that Iris took the knife and that Renju had somehow ingested Shokos eyeball...

So my wife does not like video games, but <I>might</I> enjoy more of a decision-tree adventure sort of thing with minimal control movements. Is this the kind of game that you could figure out with another person who's watching? Save my marriage, board 8!

Yes

The main story segments are point and click adventure stuff (examine stuff, talk to people, etc) and are very straightforward. The somnium segments are timed puzzles where you have to interact with stuff in the right way in some order, some of which you can kinda logically deduce and some of people which is kind of random and requires trial and error. Each action takes some amount of time, but you can use powerups to reduce the time costs. Early on it doesnt matter too much, but later on its important to use those to avoid spending like two minutes (out of six total) in a single action. You can reset the puzzle segments if you fuck up, though.

Huh the Day 1 edition comes with 2 extra stickers I guess, but then on the back there's extra tape with the number 40 written on it, scribbled out and then 39 written below it.

You guys get that tape part too? I guess it was them going through the stickers to put in the game boxes and they left that on, kinda neat

Got Iriss ending and got to the lock in Hitomis route

Current theory: Date is Saito, or possibly Saitos body having switched minds with somebody else? The ages match, and the mind switching thing is a pretty clear Chekovs gun.

Just beat the game. I really enjoyed it but there was some stuff I wasn't a fan of.

Wish there were more routes. With some of the routes you first clear, I was expecting more routes that focused on other characters.

I was expecting more when it came to the idea of parallel worlds. I never completed the Zero Escape series, only playing through a couple of routes of 999, but I'm guessing the stuff with Date remembering stuff in other routes was just to tease the people who have played through those games expecting the same thing.

I wasn't a fan of some of the goofy stuff in the game. Mizuki randomly being strong and taking out bodyguards really took me out of it and I was really tired of the joke of "PORNO MAG" in almost every QTE scene.

I finished today.
That might be the cheesiest ending I absolutely loved ever, though Hitomi using her right arm in the dance number was strange considering they made it a point she didn't get it fixed.

Also aw yeah oyakodon ending with bonus AI and loli as a side benefit.

...Or should I say okonomiyaki ending?

I feel like you kind of need to be familiar with Uchikoshi's other stuff though because man the whole 'you can remember other timelines' thing is just a super convenient plot device that never does anything in this story except make it happen. It doesn't really bother me, but it still feels a bit weird. That and most of the action scenes being ridiculous in a bad way were my main complaints I think (but some of them did work, luckily, and MOST weren't too important, the only really bad offender was the one in Iris's route where everyone comes together to try and save her).

Also I think that this is the only Uchikoshi game since Ever17 I liked the entire main cast? Which is impressive by itself, though perhaps the plot on the whole isn't as good as 999 or VLR... but all together I think it deserves to be held in the same regard overall, and the problems it does have aren't as big as some of the problems any of the Zero Escape games or the Infinity series have. Excellent game that was really satisfying.
