President Donald Trump wants the Fed to keep cutting anyway. Trump on Wednesday urged the "boneheads" in charge of the Fed to import the controversial negative interest rate policies from foreign central banks. "The Federal Reserve should get our interest rates down to ZERO, or less," the president tweeted. Trump's suggestion of negative rates flies in the face of the economic optimism expressed by the White House. If the economy is so strong, why would the Fed need to resort to policies it didn't even pursue during the Great Recession? The Fed dropped rates to near-zero in 2008 after the implosion of Lehman Brothers, but never ventured into subzero territory. Danielle DiMartino Booth, a vocal critic of modern central bank policy, cautions that negative rates would bring the debt-reliant US economy "to its knees." "Negative interest rates are about as un-American as you can possibly be," said DiMartino Booth, CEO and chief strategist for Quill Intelligence. As someone who's always leaned fiscally conservative (we need to deal with our crippling debt and shouldn't be piling onto it with obscene budget deficits), this royally pisses me off. I seriously don't know how any so-called Republican or conservative could support this shit. Trump cut taxes for the rich, which ran up the annual deficits and caused our debt to soar, which the younger generations and yet to be born will pay for. Then, to enable it further, he intends to fuck us over as we try to cobble together what little we can to save up for the future where we inevitably get hit with paying for these decisions. It wouldn't help with any debt we already took out at the prevailing interest rate of the time. He seems to think we can "refinance" it. lol....how would you like it if the government came to you and said they decided they were going to pay you a lower interest rate on the treasury bond you took out, because they just like...feel like it?
