Yeah I made Felix one and regretted it. Never again.

Also I think the the reason Santa's insistence regarding Edelgard is that it completely ignores that Edelgard's morality is separate from Rhea herself also being a monster, more importantly in the figurative sense rather than literal. Flayn and Seteth are absolutely decent, hell great people. Rhea is insane. You basically are deciding which "monster" to side with. Rhea totally falling back in VW doesn't erase her past actions.

Santa going so hard on people for falling for Edelgard's ambitions is ironically proof that he himself fell just as hard into Rhea's. Pot kettle my friend.

I tried to meme Byleth as Mortal Savant. I got sick of it and put him back in Enlightened One.

Oh, this came up at the tail end of the last topic, but in regards to Dimitri in Crimson Flower:

He's relatively sane because the coup that runs him out of Faerghus doesn't occur. The combination of Edelgard backing away from her reliance on the Agarthans* and Rhea's presence in the kingdom results in Cornelia unable to frame Dimitri for his uncle's death, thus Dimitri is no longer a fugitive and doesnt lose an eye. Amusingly enough, Crimson Flower is the route outside of his own where Dimitri is treated with dignity.

*I refuse to use that god awful "Those Who Slither in the Dark" name for those guys.

Also they look dumb with their big fur coats. They feel like a Fates holdover. Super cool in CONCEPT, spell sword is rad, but they end up not being good enough at either individually. Doesnt help that most characters who would excel as one are served better elsewhere. My assassin Ignatz was 2x Wo Dao+ with a 100% hit rate and a 97% dodge chance on that final map, and I had stopped paying attention to him several chapters prior.

It feels like the class you start investing into when your entering the last 1/4 of the game and realize you're not gonna get that Sword skill to S+ so why not spend that same amount of points to get a B in Reason.

I feel like all my Dark Knights underperformed, too. Neither Sylvain nor Lorenz were worth paying attention to by the last few chapters of their paths. Hubert was better, but I really regretted not getting those Dark Seals for him instead.

Funny title because on my GD run I was getting frustrated by my Ignatz having literally no attack as an Assassin, and then I reclassed him to a Mortal Savant and suddenly he can kill things again.

Just started Chapter 22 in GD and honestly my first reaction was what on Earth am I gonna do with five free days

Explore every day to max everyone's drive, and instruct l GD members in stats you may want to use if you recruit them in future playthrough. I started training Leonie in Axes and Heavy Armor in the last 2 chapters even though she's a Bow Knight, so I could spend renown to level those quicker initially in a future playthrough for Great Knight even though she was E in both, and got them both to C+. Was also able to train Byleth all the way to a B in Flying from a D+ through last minute drills.

The amount of investment I put wasting time trading Flayn as a Pegasus Knight and has no business being.

Yeah, I wasted time investing Reason magic in Edelgard because of her budding talent, thinking she might have a class that could make use of it later. Turns out you have to go all-in on magic for her to make it at all relevant.

The idea of magic Edelgard is HILARIOUS, why is it even there? Is the skill you get from unlocking the budding talent unique or something?

Looked it up and it's just +10 to Reason crit. What nonsense.

Her Magic growth is quite good. Her Stat cap (Not that you'll reach these ever.) for it is her 4th highest after HP, Cha and Strength. She is definitely the best user of Bolt Axe other than maybe Annette. (She's better than Annette.)

Like she's better at Magic than she is at defense. She also has an okay-ish spell list. It's an option. Shrug.

Felix and Sylvain have budding talent reason too. And they actually have way less reason to go mage than Edelgard does.

The only class mistakes I regretted on my first run were Armor>Fortress Knight for Dedue. Made him completely worthless and Paladin>Great Knight for Sylvain. I should have just leveled his Flying and gone Wyvern Rider after Paladin. Great Knight was actually a downgrade for him because it lowered his base speed to the point of him getting doubled.

I actually did do Mortal Savant Felix and it was okay. He didn't get much speed while in it. But 35-ish was enough for pretty much the entire endgame. Having 3 range is somewhat nice. I don't think I would do it again tho.

My 2nd run has pretty much been Brigand>Wyvern town. Everyone is so powerful it's silly.

The class list when I look at certifications. I don't see Wyvern Master on there.

The unique classes don't appear in the certifications list where you check exam requirements I don't think. You only really see them when you go to Inventory -> Reclass, then they're under unique classes (same with Dancer)

You can forge a Steel Axe into a Bolt Axe.

And the real reason Edelgard has good Magic growth is to meme her into Gremory.

That's actually pretty cool. For such a niche series to have evolved into one that gets this level of fan support in the first month. And it's a testament to the worldbuilding that people want to engage with it to this degree.

Wonder why Rhea supports the noble/crest system anyway. I have to think that a large part of her story in Golden Deer is a lie, because why would Seiros endorse a system of nobility based on the Crests and the Ten Heroes if they're all villains and the Crests are her dead relatives?

Based on rating there are exactly 420 right now (nice) so that's 17%. Impressively, your estimate was literally the EXACT OPPOSITE of the amount there is.

Some of those could be rated Explicit for other reasons, though.

Golden Deer story basically says that the crests are all from enemies of the goddess. I rationalized it for myself along the lines of, the crests were too widespread for the church to remove from Fodlan without causing a huge uprising, so they incorporated the crests into their own mythos in order to avoid killing tons of people while also placing the church as "above" the nobility.

Crest origins:

In truth, Crests are derived from the blood of the Nabateans. After plundering the Holy Tomb, slaying Sothis in her sleep and turning her bones and heartthe Crest Stoneinto the Sword of the Creator, Nemesis and the Ten Elites slaughtered the Nabateans in Zanado.

As a reward for their efforts, the Ten Elites were given Heroes Relics crafted from the bones and hearts of the slain Nabateans, and gained their Crests from their blood. The exception was Wilhelm I, who betrayed Nemesis for Seiros and was given her Crest after she shared her blood with him. The Crests of the Four Saints are implied to have passed down the same way.

After Seiros slays Nemesis and her forces suppress the Ten Elites, she rewrites the history of Fdlan, and the origin of Crests, into the story commonly propagated today.

this is definitely conjecture but Have you noticed the Geography of which characters have what Crests? The Empire is pretty much loaded with 4 Saint Crests. Indech, Cichol, Cethleann, Mariul. Meanwhile the Alliance and Kingdom have 10 Elite crests. There is a support with one of the Blue Lions (Pretty sure it's Sylvain.) where he says having a Crest is important to defend the land from monsters. It keeps it liveable. Maybe Serios sent the 10 elites and their bloodlines there to expand the reach of Fodlan. Because it likely wasn't as liveable as the southern region which is stated to have good granaries and is easily defensible from invasion. The Northeast part of Fodlan has monsters and Almyrian attacks. So they sent a lot of the 10(11) elites there. Rewriting the history of it to cover it up doesn't seem too farfetched.

That's just my theory on it.

I would say it's as simple as Seiros not wanting to kill off the descendants of the Elites simply because their parents were monsters, so she rewrote history to cover up the dark aspects and help entrench the new ideology of her Church that the goddess was responsible for basically everything ever

Annnnd Golden Deer finished!

Last cutscene was pretty cool. Sure, Nemesis and the 10 Elites are a random-ass finale, but I accept this deployment of cool. And EPIC OPERA MUSIC.

Got Claude/Ingrid's paired ending. Was amusing. Also S-Support with Hilda, because why not.

Think that'll be it for me playing Fire Emblem until DLC comes along. Kinda don't feel like burning myself out in the other two routes.

It makes enough sense for the Golden Deer to keep using it, and I guess probably the Blue Lions maybe, but I find it hard to see why the Black Eagles would go back there. I guess I'll see eventually, but after 90 hours I'm probably not gonna do the next two/three routes rights away.

At least I feel like Golden Deer is a pretty good choice if you're only gonna play one.
