tried to rewatch Fate/Zero, one of my all time favourites. but it's not really as good as I remember. I thought the nasuverse thing was cool at some point, not sure why... the whole grail war is pretty stupid when I actually think about it. couldn't get over the writing of Lancer and Saber talking to each other while they're fighting, it was really embarrassing. then I got to the episode where baby Rin investigates the missing kids at her school and I just had to stop watching.

on the other hand, rewatching Evangelion and it's exactly like I remember. great anime

I'll even say there is nothing wrong with having sexuality in a game about teenagers, because teenagers have sex and relationships too.

they sure do.

what they don't tend to do is wear skirts that don't cover their ass or shirts that have their tits flopping around like they're on the moon.

T0ffee posted...
It's not even about the sexuality in the game so much as the act of censorship itself that's the problem.

Censorship of any art form (and video games ARE art), should not be condoned.

except that censorship is completely fine. there is nothing actually wrong with it, and typically it serves to, yknow, censor things that otherwise would not be accepted.

especially when it comes to games that want to be on a platform that likes to uphold its family friendly image.

half the time, developers don't even want to do fanservice. witcher 3 as an example, not a single person wanted to write the sex scenes in that game. none. hell, the lead writer for it even straight said "people don't play games to see sex scenes. there are more efficient ways of seeing that."

that being said, the sex scenes are uncensored on the switch version of that game. so clearly nintendos censorship policy isn't too stringent. shit, one of the changes in the western release of mirage sessions was the characters ages. you know, where sexualizing a kid is generally frowned upon in the entire nation, alabama notwithstanding. or the references to gravure. you know, the thing that's a hairs breadth from just porn. (most gravure models actually become pornstars, so.) porn is totally fine, but when it comes to actually talking about it, it's still a taboo subject in the west. there's also the issue where gravure models age ranges can be in the preteens. this references back to the first point i made.

do we really need near child porn in a nintendo game?

even the main game director and producer both thought the changes were completely fine.

seriously, to hate on a game because of things like this is ridiculous and childlike.

but, there is an option for you. you can very easily import the uncensored japanese version.

except nah, because they used the western version for the port in both regions because that's how much they were fine with their changes.

If they want to make uncensored art, they can find their own platform for it. Most companies don't want to be involved with seedy stuff because it drags down their image and the PC crowd has dragged gaming through the mud. And, as much as I enjoy nudity and would be fine with seeing more of it in games, at the same time I tend to eschew associations with games that are involved in tasteless nudity.

Omg so Beastars is pretty great, it may be contender for anime of the year.

Only recommendation I would have for it is to use a combination of Media Player Classic (MPC) and Smooth Video Project (SVP) to watch it. The reason I say this is because technically you can not even watch it outside of Japan because it is being licensed to Netflix so we cannot even watch it till it finshes airing. That right there is no american simulcast.

The reason I recommend Smooth Video Project is because the show is completely CG and is actually pretty good at what it does. However the with a completely 3D environment and characters, the show looks unnatural at 24fps and looks very choppy. What SVP does is in real time is bring any downloaded show's framerate up to the screen cap of your TV/Monitor. So you can view the show in a very smooth experience.

TLDR; Beastars is contender for anime of the year but you cant watch it except by downloading it but its choppy so it need Smooth Video Project to bring up the abysmal framerate.

That too.

How many people will choose not to buy a niche JRPG specifically because of questionable content? Next to zero. How many will choose not to buy it specifically because the content was forcibly cut? Sony's finding out now.

I don't see why they're cracking down on things like that now, when they were expressly open to it in the past. If they're worried about their image, that sure doesn't worry Nintendo, the reigning king of family friendly gaming, who went on record saying they wouldn't force such censors on Switch. They're just alienating their customers and the developers working with them for no real reason.

Welp.

Finally finished Dragon Quest XI S at 160 hours of playtime.

Finished the main game, post-game, all the sidequests, maxed out all the levels and skill trees, found all the best gear, and beat the 2D section with the secret superboss.

Technically all that's left the final super-secret super-megaboss, but the general consensus is that it needs close to max stats to beat it, which means hours of grinding for stat boost seeds.

F that. You don't even get a proper reward, and it's not integral to the story, so I'm officially calling this game done!

Overall, it's an excellent game, and quite possibly the best that Dragon Quest has gotten.

The loudest whiners almost always won't buy anyway, but their actions potentially discourage others from buying. And, as I understand it, Steam has drastically cut back on its pornographic offerings in recent years and has pulled questionable titles. Plus Steam is absurdly fringe compared to Nintendo and Sony, both of which are household names widely known among non-gamers including parents who purchase systems and games for their kids.

"questionable titles" including this one for month (until HEAVY backlash) despite it being absolutely tame: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1044490/The_Expression_Amrilato/

If steam would be consistent, we would probably care less. For a long time it did not allow visual novels at all. Then it seemed like it was opening up, then it started randomly delisting some (sometimes for "school settings" itself being child exploitation???), and then back to opening up...

Nekopara was one of the first big 18+ VNs on steam, and they've been untouched by all of this. They deliver their 18+ content with a cheap DLC, buyable within steam itself. And yet a couple months ago, they banned the G Senjou no Maou patch that delivered 18+ content via the same way. Nekopara is FAR more notorious for its 18+ content because cuteness and lewdness is the entire point of the VN, and yet actual literature gets slapped by censorship. Why? Is it because Gsen's patch is free and Nekopara's is like $5? Is steam only complicit because they're making more money off of Nekopara? That isn't a moral stand, then.

They don't know where they want to be regarding visual novels and keep partially backtracking. It's obnoxious.

Which games have gotten the most negative press for sexual content? I'd say it's EASILY mass effect and GTA. Mass effect still sold shit loads before EA gutted the studio and forced a different team to make Andromeda and GTAV is close to the most profitable game of all time. The idea that moral backlash actually reduces sales is false demonstrably. Bad public press does nothing to games and honestly probably actually helps most games by serving as free advertising.

Steam gets controversy for being uneven about their shit but to my knowledge the blatantly pornographic games they have on the site have not caused them any problems since they added good ways to filter what type of games you see on the store page.

Basically what you are saying is just false. It doesn't work that way and actually the opposite is true. It's pretty easy to notice it's the japanese companies with the weird censorship practices and I can only guess it's cause they just don't understand how the western market actually functions. Complain about the sex scenes in the witcher and how the writers didn't want to write them all you want, the series is massively successful and critically acclaimed despite more sexual content then most games sony or nintendo are censoring. CD Projekt Red (the witcher devs) are also one the devs with the highest public opinion so the idea that sexualization in games somehow destroys the public's perception of your studio is just complete bullshit.

Yo what the hell, the FGO anime has such high production value. The fights look fucking awesome from the choreography to the powers to the sound to the camera angles. The plot is kinda whatever but damn does this show look and sound good. They puttin that gacha scam money to good use.

Also watched what's out of assassin's pride so far. The first episode had good animation but it was a trap and fell off harshly in the next few episodes. The plot sounds like fan fiction written by a 13 year old. The characters range from bland to bad. Still mildly entertaining in a guilty pleasure kind of way but it's pretty generic.

Finished Kengan s2. Watched the first 10 eps last night and the last 2 a little while ago. Most of the fights seemed longer, but most of them weren't particularly amazing or anything. Ohma's match in particular was dull, although part of it was just the protagonist problem where that outcome was readily assumed regardless.

That doctor was fucking crazy and his opponent was neat as well. Their match was thankfully short, while keeping a lot of really cool twists. Out of all the fights, though, I think I liked the pro wrestler's match the most, but in general he's more entertaining than the other characters.

I haven't mentioned health stuff in a while because it's been really slow but I'm currently prepping for a colonoscopy and endoscopy tomorrow. This prep is a hellish nightmare. Basically no food for 36 hours and you have to take tons of laxatives AND our toilet just broke like 2 days ago. We have it kinda jury rigged so we can flush it manually by putting on a latex glove and reaching into the toilet back area and pulling up on the rubber thingy. I also am missing a pill and my mom who is supposed to be handling things since I'm barely conscious is super sick and currently sleeping.

It could (and probably will) be worse. I just gotta make it about 18 more hours. Really hoping I can manage to sleep sometime during thing.

More on topic though, I've been playing atelier ryza and it's been a huge help distracting me. Really fun and chill game although sometimes it gets a bit tedious to craft tons of things in a row but so far I still love it.

ryza is really easy to break once you get to near-endgame, i went from barely being able to beat the final boss to taking 1 damage from the dlc boss in a few hours. i felt super weak the entire game until then though

game was average all around, but i hated how short it felt at the end. all of a sudden there wasn't really anything left to do, thanks to the lack of character endings (because they're selling them as dlc...). quests are nice but they end pretty abruptly... and two or three vital recipes are locked behind them, with no indication. i wasted so long trying to figure out how to get alchemy paint/jar of spirits/top tier ingots and cloths before i realized they were behind quests/treasure hunts

battle system was nice that they were trying realtime for once but it definitely felt too fast. breaking down items mid-battle felt like it took an entire turn's worth of time. move being on X was really awkward

8/10 meruru/shallie/maybe lulua was better

starting the mysterious series now

edit: protip but you can slap in multiple items at one with R1 (maybe L1?) when adding items, and you can manually finish a synthesis after 2-4 input items with start. i didnt realize this for half the game <_<

Yeah I'm aware of all that. I'm playing on hard and actually have felt pretty OP for most of the game. My alchemy level feels like it's higher than it should be. It's at 45 and I just finished exploring the maple forest area for the first time. Refinishing items feels pretty huge in terms of power. Being able to up bombs quality and power to max makes a big difference and you can get some pretty dang strong gear as soon as you can get to the volcano.

I am really taking my time with things though. Making sure to do every side quest and treasure hunt and make every recipe I can and leveling up gear before moving on. I really need to find a damn wind general good though. Knapsack too small.

This prep is awful but honestly not as bad as I expected, at least so far. It's now been over a day since I've had any food. The main thing is I don't know if I can get to sleep before the next dose of laxatives (which is about 6 hours away). It almost seems designed to keep you awake for like 22 hours straight.

In ryza I got my 5th party member and made my fist S rank item (claws for the character). Feelin ahead of the curve although I'm worried I might no have too much of the game left.

*looks at all the Atelier games on the shelf*

I am so far behind in this series that it's hilarious. I'm at least four or five games back from Ryza. *facepalm* I mean, it's great that they're still making them, but there's such a thing as too much of a good thing, sometimes.

Meanwhile, I was thinking about getting Conception Plus (i.e. the remake of the original Conception, which was import-only in the PSP days), but, of course, Sony censored the bejeebers out of it, and my laptop has no hope of running the (uncensored) Steam version, so ... have to pass for now. That, and Game Stop apparently isn't even going to try carrying it.

I mean, it's great that they're still making them, but there's such a thing as too much of a good thing, sometimes.

Nah, if you're making something and people are still liking and buying it might as well keep making them. The only bad thing is when drops in quality start happening.

Ryza is my first atelier game. Finally upgraded the knapsack to full basket size which feels real nice. Also enemies are starting to catch up to me slowly which is nice. Kind of annoying that the game forces you to have 2 frontline units and 1 backline unit. I have missions for one character that need lent in the party but the only way to have both those characters in is to remove ryza from the party and she is OP as hell cause of the gear right now.

In the medical stuff, my procedure itself went well. I got the hentai experience of a robot tentacle in both ends (the endoscope and colonoscope). They were 2 fucking hours behind schedule though and I'd already been fasting for so long, hadn't slept for more than an hour in the last day, and was super thristy cause I had to stop drinking 4 hours before it was supposed to start and the whole time in the waiting room I had to listen to this old women rant about political nonsense to her friend about how the media is all lies and a bunch of other completely unfounded crazy talk. I've seen this GI 4 times now, the first time he was an hour and a half late, the second time he was on time because it was the first appointment of the day, the next time he was 2 hours behind, and this time he was 2 hours behind. Medical scheduling is fucking appalling.

Apparently everything looks all good now. My stomach bleeding is gone, the esophagitis is gone, nothing bad found anywhere else. In most ways thats great news but at the same time, it doesn't provide any answers. I'm to schedule a follow up in about a week and then I guess we will discuss surgery to remove my gallbladder.

Also I'm down to 155 pounds now, a full 60 pounds down from what I started at a little over 5 months ago. I know I say it every time but it only becomes more true, I'm running out of weight to lose. Oh well, I've got 2 appointments friday so lets hope they turn up something that can actually be treated.

Ryza has gotta be the most wholesome RPG I've played. The whole vibe of the game is so pleasant. The side quests are great and it's really cool to see more random NPCs in town because of the pudding. I'm not fully finished with the questline but the turn the questline for the girl that wants to find a guy took is hilarious. War powder too strong. Really hoping I find the next mats to make better gear soon. I wonder if any can turn up in a bottle world like golden puni balls did. I'm kinda sad a lot of the action order requests have changed. It used to just be use an item or deal magic damage but now it's a bunch of stuff that I'm not set up to do. Probably time to make new bombs and buff items soon.

Was pretty par the course Atelier, despite the different battle system. Got me to try the mysterious trilogy that I've been putting off forever... which is also regular atelier but not in as good of a way as Ryza.

Ryza's main plot was a lot more interesting, and compared to it, Sophie felt like a modern version of shitty old Rorona (pre remake). It wasn't terrible but man it was kind of bland 95% of the time. The only character in the game I REALLY like is Fritz. Oscar's good (the implications about his "delusions" of hearing plants, combined with how alchemy is understood to work in the mysterious universe was also interesting), Monica was average female childhood friend character and weaker than most, Plachta was fun, Corneria was alright, Harol was good, Julio seemed cool at first but got really lame as things went on, and Leon was cool.

Sophie herself was just... average. Rorona, Totori, Meruru, Vayne, Escha and Logy, and one Shallie were are interesting. Ayesha and Totori were carried by their strong desires, Totori especially going through more character development than most. Sophie's entire character revolves around her just being kind to people, especially Plachta. I can see why people tend to like the Mysterious series less, especially since apparently the second game is about as well received.

The UI is terribly about this, but this isn't actually the case. You can have three frontlines. You just have to take the backliner out of the party completely, then add in the last frontliner.

If I'd known this earlier on I would have absolutely used a different party composition for half the game, but I ended up with my favorites anyways.

As far as I know, any gatherable materials can end up in there. Even Dunkelheits, which are always the most powerful plant/flower type material in any atelier game. But you require higher levelled travel bottles to get better stuff. Dunkelheits are in like level 90+ travel bottle worlds lol. Gem costs get ridiculous if you try to use a code, too. Eventually you can farm gems very efficiently via alchemy alone, but only probably near the end of the game.

Huh, I tried to take out the backline unit earlier and couldn't. Maybe I misinputted. Currently it seems my bottles are locked at level 20 despite having much higher level materials. The number is red. I couldn't find any of the mats I needed but I'm strong enough for now I guess. Just proceeding through the story after doing a ton of sidequests.

The first like three are tied to basically main story progress, and the last two are in close proximity to the end of the game. It's a bit obnoxious, but I guess the game could be too easily broken otherwise.

Finished up Fairy Tail. Overall, I liked the characters more than the stories. Gonna watch that okaasan online next, hopefully it's silly and fun.

*waves a little flag for Atelier Annie, the one people forget*

I'd wave a flag for the Iris trilogy, too, but that's pretty different from standard Atelier.

Oddly enough, the only Rorona I have is the original vanilla version (i.e. the shitty old version described above).

I own Annie but I never finished it, it also felt pretty meh. Not terrible, but not great.

Only played Iris 2 but I really liked it (and it had some of the best music in the series).
