For Fruits Basket I highly prefer the manga for once.

If an anime has a manga, I'd pretty much always recommend reading the manga if you like the anime.

I love both the manga and the anime of Fruits Basket. Imma have to check out the new version.

Also voting for Vesperia. That's a pretty good deal.

I tried watching Witchcraft Works when the anime first released, but there was a glut of 'magical high school' anime that season, so it didn't really grab me.

Alright thanks for the suggestions guys!

Went with Vesperia in the end.

I've been wanting to play the enhanced version the longest out of all the games on that list.

Oh, and as an added bonus, I paid for it with one of those points for shopping apps, and I had enough points to get free movie tickets!

Watched Ad Astra with my mom and my two brothers.

I love being a cheap bastard and these low cost days.

Saw the first (double length) episode of kanata no astra. It's ok I guess. A few things the students did were awfully dumb but I'll try to give them a pass because I'd be pretty off my game in that kinda situation. Specifically "We have 3 days of food and water"...you can go 3 days without food and water so what does this even mean. A normal man can go 60 days burning 3k calories a day before he runs out of fat and muscle to break down. One man even fasted for over a year. They are also by a planet with lots of ice which very well might be drinkable water when thawed.

You shouldn't need any thruster fuel to reach the girl, you can just jump towards her and correct slightly if needed. They could have drawn the rope back in and used it to catch the two instead of making a human rope. He also could have jumped out with something large and jumped off of that to correct course so it was doable without any thrusters. They also could have simply flown the space ship closer.

200 IQ genius man can't come up with the plan to get resources from planets as they go? Why did they go to a planet for 5 days with only 3 days of food and water? "The tanks can only hold 20 days of water" you don't need very much water to last 20 days or even the full 3 months. How damn small are these tanks? Make another container if you need to. Thats really the only thing that truly doesn't make sense. People do not need all that much to survive. They should also all shut up and rest 99% of the time and they will use a lot less oxygen, food and water.

Oh well, I'm just gonna accept the premise and try not to think too hard if I can manage. The characters are fine for now with room to grow. Currently I'm confused on why it's rated so highly but IIRC it actually started off with a low rating so I suppose it likely picks up after a bit. Would have probably started with danmachi 2 but it's not actually over until later this week.

My medical saga continues. I got some good news and some bad news today. Well more like I got some minor bad news and I didn't get horrible news. My echocardiogram was scheduled for today and they put on my event monitor (no fucking idea why I had to wait a month for it. A nurse came in and showed me how it works in like 15 seconds). The good news is that the echo tech didn't have to call in a cardiologist during the echo. If it'd been obviously real bad, she would have, so I avoided one possible bad fate. I have to wait till roughly friday before I get the results unless they are bad in which case I'll get em sooner maybe. I'm honestly so scared of getting a call with bad news.

The bad news I DID get was from the walk in clinic I went to on friday about my new sore throat and fever. Despite the doctor being convinced it wasn't strep, it was in fact strep, because doctors are trash (this is the second doctor in a row at the clinic convinced I didn't have strep). This time we had them send in the culture which he did just to placate me and my mother so those are the results I have today. I also almost certainly have oral thrush which is gonna get worse when I take my antibiotics so I'll need an antifungal after that probably.

My normally dry skin seems even drier and lots of it is flaking off in large chunks and I'm getting skinnier every day. I could probably pass for a corpse and one not too fresh at that. I applaud the nurses and techs for not getting super grossed out when they have to perform tests. I really wish this was a dream I'd wake up from. I tried to eat a bit more food yesterday, really just trying to get at least 1k calories a day and my stomach hurt so bad from it. I don't know what to do if they don't figure this out soon. I'm basically starving every day and at this rate it'll be like 3-4 weeks before I'm underweight although given my lack of muscle I probably should be considered underweight above the normal BMI threshold.

My poor sick mom that is taking care of me and taking me to my appointments is getting worse and I think I gave her strep as well. She just doesn't have the energy or health to do what she is but it's the only option because I can't even get up for more than a few seconds some days and I feel so guilty about it. Feels like we are both running on fumes. I'm really pinning my hopes on the upper endoscopy scheduled for monday but I'm also scared about it and theres a good chance it won't find anything.

Finished up new Fruits Basket s1. My memory is shit, but I think it basically covers what the first anime covered. Looking forward to s2.

Should be just about done with Eiyuu Senki. Been a pretty decent eroge, though the worst part is the cast is so large and some of the girls have no scenes. :(

tbh, reminds me of how I tried to read the Ghost Hunt manga since the anime only had the one season. Since it's a shojo, the format kinda made it difficult to follow at times. I might try to revisit it at some point. Granted, it looks like both the show and manga were based on a light novel series and, while the manga goes further than the show, it seems like it probably doesn't go further than the light novels so... I guess I'm kinda screwed regardless?

Otherwise I'll mention that I've watched at least part of the Nodame Cantabile anime, the live-action version, and read a good chunk of the manga, all of which was pretty neat in its own way.

Ah, well ok then.

Feeling a lot better today than yesterday. This antibiotic doesn't leave me feeling like I'm about to drop dead and I only have to take it for 4 more days. Don't have anything to do but chill till friday. My heart rate was chillin at 46 last night and it was my first night with the monitor on so hopefully they caught that and can figure out why its so low. Still fairly confident I have a type of heart block since when it gets low at night it occasionally does double or triple beats. Fingers crossed that its not heart failure.

Managed to get down a full meal this morning although it was on the smaller side even for me. Probably about to watch some kanata no astra.

I completely agree. I didn't really realize just how poor medical diagnostics are until these last few months. I'm ready for sci-fi level stuff.

Speaking of sci-fi, kanata no astra is starting to annoy me with how dumb everyone is. I'm on episode 3 and everyone is missing an obvious and downright likely possibility. In episode 2 everyone practically had a deathwish.

In 3 specifically we learn that the communicator was destroyed by a student most likely and that they likely were being assassinated. Why did no one think that someone who knows a bit more cut the communicator so they wouldn't be tracked and killed? Probably the same person responsible for putting a ship at their original exit portal and ensuring there was a safe route back to civilization. Granted theres also a possibility that it really was illuminate and that they being set up to show off their potential.

This explains why I'm still sick...
Just got back from the ER though. Had some sharp bad back pain for a few hours so I decided to get it checked out. Swollen lymph nodes in that area probably from my strep, no big deal. Pain already went away.

It's frustrating that in 2 hours I got bloodwork and a CT scan and the results when going through the normal process that shit took me like 3 weeks.

Reached the end of Witchcraft Works and, after wiki'ing it, learned that it has an anime (d'oh!) although the anime apparently stops at the end of the Weekend Arc (and then the OVA continues a one-shot comedy story involving his sister). I should also mention that the scanlation *finally* hit that almost inevitable point when the scanlaters change and the scanlation goes to shit (iirc, I think it happens *right* at the beginning of the Takamiya vs Alcina chapters) and the cut-off is in the middle of an arc so I might have to see if another site is more up-to-date on the manga.

At this point, however, I'll likely take a break from manga (or, at least, non-horror anthology manga). It's just too time- and energy-consuming. I kinda want to wait for the on-going to stuff to come out with a lot before I read again, but I expect I might follow a few. However, when I'm not binging, I kinda loose track of plot threads, etc.

Oh, plus I still need to check whether wireless remotes work with the Switch when it's not docked (wired apparently don't) and I need to find the link to that one article discussing some good $25 or $28 3rd party wireless one. Kinda want to dust off my Switch at this point and, if I don't find any cheap games of interest right now, I'll probably pick some up come Black Friday.

Finished kanata no astra and now I get the rating shift. They drop like 10 twists in a row in the last few episodes and then give an awesome 20 minute epilogue. Wish more shows did that. Despite the utter stupidity of the characters it still ended up being a pretty fun ride. They are still dumb as dirt though.

Probably will move onto danmachi 2 tomorrow. Had the best day I've had in a while today.

This is good news!

And it reminds me that I need to catch up on Danmachi. Free time is slowly becoming available. I used a bit of it to at least wrap up Magical Senpai today. (Cute, a little ecchi, not too bad for a short show, but not something I'd watch if I wanted something serious.)

According to the guy at gbatemp, the release will be on October 4, if all goes according to plan.

Naturally, things might go wrong so my personal expectation is somewhere between the 3rd and 4th weeks of October.

Still, I'm stoked to finally play the sequel to one of my favorite games on the DS.

Speaking purely from the manga, it's average at best.

It's literally just another isekai with no distinguishing factors to differentiate itself from the rest.

Got my echo results back finally and its totally normal. Fantastic news. Granted it means I don't have any answers for why my heart rate is low but hopefully it's cause of lowered metabolism from only eating 1k or less calories a day. Got the neurologist appointment tomorrow and then the endoscopy monday. The end of this nightmare could actually be in sight. Would be so great if they find something easily treatable in the endoscopy.

On the downside I don't think this antibiotic is working for my strep. I've got 2 more doses of it but my throat feels the same as before I started. Oh well.

Well shit, I underestimated my health and managed to blast through all 11 episodes of danmachi 2 that are out so now I'm left waiting 2 days for the final episode. I must say this season had quite a lot of "gender equality". I also must say that almost nothing happened and they were in the dungeon for a total of like 3 minutes the entire season. It's fine with me though, anytime you throw a prostitute battle arc at me (with a little yuri) you are forgiven for it basically not mattering.

Finished up danmachi 2. Kind of a filler season honestly but it was good fun. Apparently season 3 is announced for summer so thats cool.

Started watching Watashi ni Tenshi ga Maiorita! because it's yuri and I'm yuri trash. It's like a slightly less offensive version of uzamaid. Manages to be somewhat funny sometimes.

Also I just got code vein on steam. Thought it wasn't coming out till the 30th. I'll be attempting to play that but I'm not sure I can manage playing action games rights now.

Finished up with my antibiotics and my throat is still mildy sore so I might need yet another antibiotic (it'll be the 3rd this month).

Finished demon slayer, movie announced for the next arc which is honestly a bummer to me. Hopefully season 2 is after it. With how successful demon slayer has been it seems like a no brainer but anime studios have been allergic to money and logic for decades now so ya never know.

The show itself was very nice. The only real standouts were the animation and main character but both of those were stellar and the rest was totally adequate. Zenitsu was way more annoying than he needed to be though and really a lot of the characters were very one dimensional and gimmicky to a fault. Supposedly that lessens later on in the manga.

Played a few hours of code vein. It's pretty fun. Took me a little while to really get the hang of what I should be doing in fights. You really should be using lots of abilities and not just relying on basic attacks. The story is also a lot more engaging than I expected. Only minor complaint is that the game is a bit on the easy side so far but not so easy that I feel invincible and I am using partners. Oh, and actually another complaint, the damn backstab and parry animations take WAY too long. Each one is like 5+ seconds. Wish there was an option for fast backstabs or something where it only takes like 1 second.

I also kind of wish there were more passive slots. I already have a ton of nice passives and its tough to decide which 4 to use but thats not really a complaint.

I live, I'm all loopy on sedatives from the procedure. My stomach is bleeding mildy and my esophagus is irritated. According to the doctor this does not explain the pain I get when eating just about any food so its basically just bonus illness and this gave us no leads on why that happens. They took some biopsies to see what might have caused the bleeding and now we await the results. I meet with the doctor again in a week.

They also kicked me out so fast after I woke up. Pretty annoyed about that. Would have been really nice to wait another 5-10 minutes to kinda get my bearings. I feel pretty nauseous right now and hope that goes away before long.

Kinda wanna play code vein while I'm a bit loopy but I'm actually so tired so I'll probably just rest.

Although the artstyle took another shift.

Still, the story is what really matters, so I'm sure I can just get used to the new art.

While the tapes I found did include Pokemon (before the show went to hell; there's a quality drop some time after Fuschia City), the larger part of it seems to be stuff like Blue Gender, Trigun, Dragon Balls, Cowboy Bebop, and Big O, from what I've seen so far. I assume I probably have a bunch of non-anime stuff taped as well, including Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction episodes which I could just get on Youtube. It's kinda weird to think how much shit has changed since setting your VCR was sometimes the only way you'd ever see a show again and now even the more obscure stuff, including things that didn't necessarily get a VHS/DVD release, wind up on sites like YT.

I assume I probably taped Monster Rancher during its run (which was terrible, but I loved the franchise and some of the characters -- basically everybody except Genki -- were alright), but I wound up just buying DVDs for it off either ebay or Yahoo Auctions (remember when *that* was a thing?) which, humorously enough, I *also* haven't watched. And, again, I'm assuming I could probably just find the thing streaming somewhere more easily than it would take to physically locate the DVDs.

Beyond Belief was freaking awesome! Me and my siblings would make bets on what was or wasn't true.

I rarely had the opportunity to record anime on VHS, but I still have several of those tapes. Macross II is the most notable title that survived.

I also have the first eight episodes of Monster Rancher from a DVD that my wife noticed in a bin at Dollar Tree, years ago.

That's how I got back into Digimon. Saw a DVD with a bunch of episodes for $1, and from there I had to get the rest of it (first and second series).

Found a Witch Hunter Robin tape. Loved the show (a lot more than the original FMA, which was also running at the time), but kinda forgot it existed.

I loved the show especially for that gimmick, but later on I began to realize that some of the "true" stories were probably also fake, which was a bit of a downer. (I *think* it might have been because I started to read one of the researcher's books and a lot of it seemed to be based solely on the claims of the alleged witnesses.)

Nice. While I've seen some crazy DVDs/BRs at Dollar Tree (a lot of which I've picked up), I can't say my area ever got those.

Yeah, I've picked up a few of those. The only kinda issue is that I'll have vol 1 and vol 3 but no volume 2 and nonsense like that. Also they seem to carry something from pretty much everything except Tamers.
