Where we talk stuff about animu, mango, vidya, and your favorite ara~ ara~ waifu.

Also, dunno if you knew this @Broken_Zeus but the guy who posts the 500th message is usually the one who makes the next Topic.

And to answer your last post, manhwa, and manhua (chinese) are also fair game.

I've posted a lot about Solo Leveling, and The Gamer before, and I've seen some talks about Tower of God and others.

Sadly I did not. I haven't consistently followed the anime topics for *that* long. I'll keep it in mind if I ever wind up turning off the lights on another anime topic.

Good, good, gooooood. Follow-up question: If a manga writer/artist is called a manga, what's a manhwa artist/writer called? I tried googling manhwaka but apparently that's not it.

Otherwise, my final questions from the previous questions were as follows:
And is there any reason why the scanlations for manhwa aren't as good as manga? Is it just because it's not as big?

Granted, the manhwa I was reading weren't particularly great so that might be another part of it. I was reading RPG for a while (and probably will get back to it), but then I started to read Ghost Wife and finished up to chapter 90 (the last scanlation I could find). It's one of those things where neither is all that great yet I still got invested in the story =x

All of those series (and more) basically distracted me from the fact that I had *meant* to be reading through Kengan Ashura. All the same, I'll probably go back to binging horror manga first.

The only manhwa I've read any of are solo leveling and tower of god which seem to have large translation efforts although I noticed especially for solo leveling the quality shifted around a bit in terms of translation when I got near the end of what was available. Also inherently korean names seem to be very samey which can make it a little less readable IMO (if it uses normal korean names anyway).

Manwha in general seems to suffer from it's format a bit. They are primarily published on webtoons which rewards quantity over quality so a lot of em get stretched out obnoxiously. Not all though. The benefit is that they are mostly full color.

It is still smaller than manga but personally I think it might be about to blow up a bit or is already in that process. The fact that two of the most popular ones are getting anime (by japanese studios) in the near future is proof of that. We are getting tower of god and noblesse. If you do check either of em out be aware tower of god is absurdly long. Like 600+ chapters and still going. The first "season" (which is 80 chapters) is also a lot different to the rest.

No idea what the writers of it are called. Probably just the writers or artists for now.

Been watching fire force finally. Only a few eps in and I'm not sure if I'll continue it. It's a pretty solid shonen and the fight scenes are really cool but it feels too...simplistic? Like it has mysteries and character motivations but it's all handled in such a shonen way it's hard to feel invested in the show itself. I think most people would like it a lot though and I'll still watch at least a little more.

Caught up on vinland saga. Another good episode. At this point I just naturally assume every episode will be great. I also find it to be one of the easier shows to watch weekly. It rarely ends on cliffhangers (aside from episode 3 and that was a 3 week wait till episode 4) and most episodes while serving the overall plot are somewhat self contained so far. Of course it's high quality makes me want to watch more right away but at least I'm not sitting there with unanswered questions every week.

Also gotta complain more about my health but i'll chuck it in spoilers. Sorry if it's getting obnoxious since it's off topic whining. I'm happy my fever is gone, truly, but now I've got a horrible sputtering cough and I've completely lost my voice. I was hoping to go to the doctor today about this but I was just too tired to wanna go out knowing I also have to get a CT scan tomorrow. I really hope I can manage to sleep with this cough but I'm skeptical. It's just one thing after another with no breaks. Every day is a crisis and I'm just so tired of it all. I hope it's actually over before long but it'll at least be a month since thats as soon as I could get an echo scheduled for.

EDIT: Ok well I just started episode 4 of fire force and immediately all the secrets are clear. It really better not be that simple but feel free to confirm if you've read the source. People are being turned into infernals intentionally to generate infernal ashes to power that big ass thermal reactor they mentioned earlier so haijime industries can make big ass bucks. Possibly in collusion with the japanese government since it's desirability has gone up massively in the years leading up to this.

Well, something funny happened. I caught up to live on fire force and it felt more disappointing as the episodes went on. I was thinking "man, after demon slayer I just don't think I an handle the normal shonen protagonist and villains any more". Today I think "you know what, lets catch up on demon slayer" cause I only watched the first 8 episodes.

Episode 9 (no spoilers) immediately starts off with 2 villains immediately being cheesy shonen garbage villains just like I was complaining about in fire force "HAHAHA, I'm SOOO evil, I can't wait to kill these weaklings oh it'll be so fun" "How shall we kill them mwahahaha". Sigh. I just can't win. Am I just the crazy one? Do people really enjoy seeing completely insane "mwahahaha I"m Evil for the sake of being Evil!!!!" characters every 2 feet? I'm not even asking for every villain to have a deep backstory and relatable motivations or anything just...why this way?

From briefly looking it up the manga was apparently considered so shit that the translators dropped it before fully translating the whole thing. I couldn't find any link to a translated chapter 82.

On episode 18 of demon slayer but these damn antibiotics made me too tired to keep watching. Feels like I downed a bottle of sleeping pills. I know episode 19 is a supposed to be a big deal. Oh well. Tomorrow. Maybe.

The show is pretty great for a shonen though. I still think the villains are the weak point but the main guy and the art is enough to keep my invested.

Oh, plus I picked up YGO GX: Duel Academy for the gba today since I haven't played a YGO game in forever (and, while the World Championship series is great, I thought I'd try something different... plus I always liked GX).

Out of all the YGO games I've played over the years, this looks like it'll be the most confusing with the whole school system. It also reminded me that the gba's shortcomings when it comes to viewing cards (iirc, the DS could display more of the whole thing instead of needing to pull it up) and, more generally, the stupidity of these games having so many pointless filler cards. There's no real reason for a lot of weak, vanilla monsters since they could have gone with slightly more useful effect monsters and super weak vanilla fusion monsters nobody ever used.

I thought I played Duel Academy, but I was thinking of Spirit Caller for DS. I liked that one; I enjoy the games with maps and schedules, with certain events happening on certain days or times of day (SC, Eternal Duelist Soul, Worldwide Edition).

Technical limitations can get annoying. The DS was beautiful in that regard; two screens and a touch screen for instant selection. It's a shame they didn't make more goof Yu-Gi-Oh games for 3DS. I was also a little disappointed in Legacy of the Duelist because it felt like it wasn't as intuitive as it could have been, with several of the Dualshock 4's inputs not being utilized. You still have to use the D-pad to get where you're going, and the cursor doesn't even wrap around the screen. And the text is too small to remote play on my Vita.

Few things annoy me as after-credits scenes on anime, especially when they contain information that bridges the overarching story. Blue Exorcist apparently contains a lot of them and NFI doesn't have the option to skip to those scenes or cut the ending credits (despite offering to jump to the next episode when the credits start).

At any rate, I've binged it like crazy so I'm getting close to the end of the first season... and the way it's set up it looks like there's a movie and then a separate shorter season, which I need to see if NFI even has. Otherwise, since the manga is ongoing, I could also wait to see if it gets other seasons down the road.

depending on which blue exorcist series he's watching, not skipping the credits is fine because it's fine

the first series has some killer music

however the first series only roughly follow the manga, and then it does its own thing.

the second series starts off after the last manga part the first series did, then ignores the rest of that series.

So apparently there are a few different sites about Asian anime fans who hate western cosplayers. They say that western body features are not fit for anime characters, that they're too old, masculine, un-cute, and don't want them to cosplay because - here's the kicker - it's racist. Of course they support the argument by cherry picking the best professional Asian cosplays and the most amateur western ones.

...There is just so very much wrong with this "logic" that I can't even fit it in one post.

Lol. The only moderately problematic things western cosplayers have is inaccurate facial features. Calling it racist is hilarious.

Also my face started swelling and my eyes were burning so back off the meds or else my throat might swell shut. Sigh. Of course I'd get the 0.000001% allergic reaction (presumably).

so are you dying or what's going on

I'd really truly honestly like to know. Logic says probably not, my terror addled brain says yes any second. I don't know what to believe. I'll sum up what I know is going on with me.

Anxiety (like real bad, panic attacks and stuff, can't be alone, can barely go outside), fatty liver (not a huge deal, 20% of people have it, I've probably already cured it), gallbladder dysfunction (this one is of greater concern but not sure how much, I've gotten a HIDA scan showing poor function but not crazy poor function, an ultrasound showing nothing, an abdominal CT scan that I'm waiting on the results for, and I need to get an upper endoscopy and colonoscopy scheduled and done), and now an infection, either bronchitis or pneumonia.

The quack of a doctor I went to for my infection just prescribed antibiotics and said ya go ahead and take em whenever, so naturally I took them right away. Wrong choice. Got side effects from the antibiotics (cefdinir specifically) that were not entirely minor. However, my illness is also pretty rough right now. I'm very tired and weak. I can feel fluid in my lungs but it's hard to know if it's the bronchi or the lungs themselves (which is the difference between not so serious bronchitis and fairly serious pneumonia). Due to some of the side effects of the meds I called the doctor and he said it's probably viral so I could just stop taking them if I felt like it.

I did but then I had a double worsening where my fever came back which indicates bacterial infection so I started taking it again. The side effects came back but also got worse with anaphylactic reactions (swollen face, burning eyes). If that progresses your throat can swell shut and you can die so I quit the meds once more and am now deciding when I should go back to the doctors about it (if I can even make it in, I'm incredibly tired and weak). I don't even know for sure if the burning eyes and swelling was a reaction to the medication, it could have just been one of my other dozen issues. Doctors show little interest in clearing anything up or working on more than one issue at a time.

Frankly I'm just mentally destroyed right now. I can't make rational judgements anymore. I really NEED a doctor that actually gives a fuck to manage everything but they won't so I just feel like I'm drowning in everything.

In addition to those more immediate and known issues I have chest pains, chest pressure, dizziness, low resting heart rate (sometimes in the high forties and I am not remotely in shape), low normal temp (around 97.3 average), my fingers, palms, and toes are red and go numb sometimes indicating a lack of blood getting to them however why is unknown. My two leading theories are that I'm effectively dehydrated due to my gallbladder dysfunction. It can cause poor absorption of vitimins and blood tests showed I was borderline even in the ones I eat a lot of daily. I'm also just in general very thirsty all the time. The other idea is heart failure which would explain the low heart rate, temp, and poor circulation to extremities. If I have that, I really could be dying.

I also have joint pain, an odd swelling on my thumbs, a bone spur on my big toe, general coldness sometimes, twitching all over, and probably a few things I'm forgetting. My gallbladder issue makes it hurt badly to eat most foods so my diet is pretty much plain brown rice, apples, and bananas. I've lost 45 pounds in 3 months with no exercise.

I've got an echo (heart ultrasound) and event monitor scheduled for the 23rd which is so far away. Every day is a crisis for months now and I'm just past the limit of my sanity. I have mental breakdowns every few days. I was fine until 3 months ago.

Wow it announced 2 seasons at once? I'm down. I wonder if thats enough to wrap up the whole story.

I finally actually started aria the animation. I didn't realized how jam packed this is with Ara Aras. I think that last episode had Ara in it like 100+ times. I'm enjoying it quite a lot. I pretty much enjoy any iyashikei anime and this one isn't disappointing. It's a nice way to fight back some of the anxiety as will the 7 fucking cats my sister is bringing tomorrow (evacuating from the hurricane). 2 of em are kittens so that should be nice and all but one is my most hated cat that meows for hours in the morning like a complete asshole. Doesn't matter if you get up and pet him or feed or anything, he just won't let you sleep.

Yeah, it was great to see two seasons announced at once. I hope they're delayed, so that come out pretty closely together, if necessary.

Gonna start on Karakuri Circus next. Finished up Endro last night and Piano no Mori the other day. Endro is alright, but I doubt I'd ever rewatch it. Piano no Mori was good, kind of gave me Your Lie in April vibes without the heavier stuff. Piano no Mori is more about the music.

Each episode of aria is really improving upon the last for me. If Yuru Camp is like a nice sunny day, this show is like a gentle rain. When the ending song kicks in it's just so relaxing. Finished Blue Exorcist last night. Apparently NFI doesn't have the movie or second season, so, as planned, I'll just wait until they adapt a lot more. The season finale was kinda eh (and they had a lot of stuff after the credits) and the whole backstory for Satan was a little weird, with his character motivations being wonky.

Not sure if I'll go back to the Kengan Ashura manga, find some more short-run horror manga, or continue an anime I stopped watching next.

Watching more aria and still liking it.

More medical news for me.

Got the results of my abdominal CT scan back. I have some cysts in my kidneys which is supposedly usually harmless and my spleen is somewhat enlarged. This may be due to the infection I'm fighting off now. Not the best news overall but not the worst. Unfortunately it means more waiting, more tests, and more not knowing. I suspect my spleen has been enlarged for much longer than I've had the infection which is not good but not immediately life threatening either. The kidney cysts may be causing the back pain I've been having and would thus need surgery. If my spleen is enlarged from some other cause and doesn't go back to normal size I might need it removed which would make me much more at risk of fatal infections or shrunk with chemotherapy which certainly wouldn't be fun. Definitely hoping it resolves itself without any of that.

Hmm. I have polycystic kidney disease, so ... did they mention that as a possibility, or do they think those cysts have a different source? If it is PCKD, I can shed a little light on that for you.

From my understanding PCKD would show up differently on the CT scan but I have no idea honestly. My kidneys in general didn't show any abnormalities in size or function. I only got the results over the phone from a nurse though. My doctor had looked it all over but I didn't get to speak to him directly. I'll definitely keep you in mind if it does end up being kidney disease though. I probably won't end up seeing that doctor until 3+ weeks from now (until I get my echo, although all doctors except the cardiologist just instantly wrote off any heart trouble because I'm under 50 years old so I doubt that'll change my GP's opinion or plan).

Took me till episode 11 of aria to realize they name every fucking character a name starting with A. Took me a while to remember which was akari and which was akira. Very nice show though. I like that it put so much work into world building aqua and that they generally have good symbolism for each episodes message. Like in the one I just watched seeing akari standing in the snow, her footprints leading away from aika's and alice's footprints mirroring what the show was just talking about. Stuff like that is jam packed into every episode and I'm loving it.

Haven't seen the whole Nintendo direct yet, but I HAVE seen the trailer for the Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE port for the Switch.

I already have it for the WII U, but I gotta say, I'm pretty interested in seeing what new things they added for the Switch. Doubly so if they managed to remove all the censoring the Wii U version had.
