I dont know about the entire world economy crashing, but at the very least the markets for things like gold and silver would instantly collapse without any scarcity. There would be a lot of upheaval. I can imagine some dummies rushing out to transmute a mountain of gold for themselves without realizing that it lost most of its financial value.

Figuring out how to recreate the r-process in a lab would mostly just leave a bunch of radioactive isotopes laying around.
