When he comes up with an excuse for why he shot "little Timmy" instead of the aliens in the training session, it always came across like he accidentally shot him and was coming up with an excuse to justify it.

Decades later it hit me that his reasoning is actually what got him into the Men In Black program, and he was completely right lol.

Just find that funny

It's... it's in the post. Basically, things aren't always as they seem, and there's even a surprisingly subtle message about not judging someone based on their appearance and preconceived notions.

The first movie really is so good. I dunno how they kept making 3 more and each was more awful than the last.

I thought that was pretty obvious, lol.

What I did always wonder was whether or not that was the intention of the test. Like, when they all struggled to take the test on their laps, was the point of the test to see if someone would move the table, or did Will "pass" that test by accident?

Did they want the recruits to shoot the girl, or did Will's reasoning impress the exam proctors because they didn't think of it first?

I always figure they didn't want them to shoot the girl because Zed still had to be convinced by K afterward, even with the creative explanation.

It's a shooting range with a bunch of cardboard cutouts. The other recruits all pump lead into the big scary aliens, Will Smith shoots a single shot into the forehead of the little girl. When asked why the hell he did that, Will Smith points out that the big monster hanging from the streetlight is just doing pullups and the one snarling is holding a tissue and is just sneezing. The little girl, on the other hand, is an eight-year-old white girl carrying quantum physics textbooks in the middle of the ghetto at night with a bunch of monsters: she's obviously about to cause some shit and is thus the only real threat.

This is the exact kind of reasoning the MiB is looking for. They routinely interact with big, scary harmless aliens.

The problem wasn't Will Smith's explanation, the problem was the attitude he gave the director. You can see it in the video TC posted. He goes to K and says, "The kid's got a real problem with authority."

They were ok with shooting the girl, they were just iffy on his attitude. He's eccentric and independent minded, much different from K and the rest of the straight laced MIB agents.

Never saw it that way. J sees all the other guys firing away putting shots into all the targets before you can even pop one shot off. It seemed to me he shot little Tiffany just to be a smartass or in a "screw it" way.

Zed didn't seem to enthusiastic about him, but K mentioned how J was able to chase down and catch that one alien type in the beginning and Zed let J come on because he trusted K enough to teach J the ropes.

Men In Black is really great. It was funny, but took itself seriously enough to where you could get really into the world of the movie.

The purpose of the exercise wasn't just to test their shooting skills, it was to test their ability to make a judgment call rather than just blindly shooting anything that isn't human. The whole series of tests was to weed out anybody too rigid in their ways and select only those that are flexible, yes even when they had to fill out the form.

I just made a topic a or MiB a few weeks ago after rewatching the first two

The first is still an absolute classic and holds up amazingly well. The chemistry beteeen TLJ and Smif is fantastic, the presto always effects hold up really well, it has a good plot and has that 90s charm thats unmistakable.

And then I jumped into 2 and didnt last 30 minutes. What an absolute dumpster fire of bad acting, horrible CGI, ridiculous and campy action scenes. I couldnt believe how hard they dropped the ball. The only thing that made sense to me was how I could remember nothing about the movie gong in. I must neurolized myself to forget that turd.

I mean, his reasoning for not shooting one alien was that it was gripping a tissue and the other was that because he was hanging then it must mean that he was working out, while damning this girl to death on the assumption that the books that she was carrying were too complicated for her when she does nto necesarily carry them to read it herself.

It sounds like a big fucking joke, the test guy does not look impressed at all and shakes his head, tells so to the other main guy from the movie but he still convinces him cause reasons and they let him in DESPITE what happened in the scene, I've watched sceenes like you describe but the mood and reactions of the people involve are somwhat positive to what happened, not negative.
