Honestly all he had to do was shoot him...it's much faster than casting spells...the characters can't even react in time to deflect bullets either.

Nah they could freeze them in mid air and send them back where they came from. Like Magneto.

I've never read the books but it's not like they couldn't, you know, just write a reason why he couldn't kill him in the story. I would imagine that they did, no?

IIRC the explanation given was that the sacrifice of his mother protecting him placed on him a form of primal protective magic. After that you have other reasons, like the horcrux thing and the nature of wands from the same magical source.

His mom sacrificed herself and basically gave him magical protection in doing so. Voldemort hit Harry with a curse but the protection caused it to bounce back and hit him. That's why Voldemort didn't have a body at the start of the books.

JK rowling has always been pulling shit out of her ass as she was writing.

Like the lame quidditch game or the game rules were made to infuriate men because at the time she was having an argument with her boyfriend or something.

But dont forget. Harry potter is a childrens book.

The thing about Quidditch is that everything about it is utterly pointless aside from chasing the Snitch. A team that can consistently catch the thing could ignore all the other aspects of the game and win every time.

"[Quidditch] was invented in a small hotel in Manchester after a row with my then boyfriend," she has written alongside the text. "I had been pondering the things that hold a society together, cause it to congregate and signify its particular character and knew I needed a sport.

"It infuriates men...which is quite satisfying given my state of mind when I invented it."

But how does she do that and not realize that, "Hey, this sport makes the witches and wizards look like total ****ing idiots because all but two of the players have no real purpose or goal for being there."

I mean, if you just wanted to see the Bludgers do work then why not have a Dodgeball style duel, a wizarding shootout if you will. If you wanted scoring goals to matter then why not widen the field of play and allow full on team versus team tactics closer to Football or Hockey.

Quidditch as formed is basically just a game of tag with a bunch of other people floofing about for no reason. Final verdict, Rowling doesn't grasp why sport interests people on a primal level and yet still writes a story about a contest between groups... -_-

Well like i said, its a kids book.

Back when school took my class to watch harry potter at the cinemas, it never crossed my mind. I just thought it was really cool.

I mean they could have fixed/retconned it by giving quidditch games a time limit and reducing the snitch score to maybe 30. I dont know how much basket ball game margins usually are. But i think its good that if a team is trailing 29 points, they can still hope the snitch can save them.

But 150 points is too much.

The best part about this argument is that she clearly was expecting it and planned the whole part about the Quidditch World Cup in the fourth book as a response.

I haven't read the fourth book since I was a kid, how did she address it?

One team owns the other so hard that even after the losing team catches the snitch it wasn't enough to make up the point difference.

So one team scored 16+ goals above the other and the other team stupidly caught the Snitch before reducing that lead to 14 goals, got it.

They did it because they were getting owned so hard they realized there was no way they could catch back up and caught the snitch as a way to forfeit to save themselves from being embarrassed further. The point was no matter how good you are at catching the snitch you can get beat if thats the only thing your team is good at.
