Kind of, I'm getting there, but I don't feel like an autonomous adult quite yet.

Nah. Probably never will. Don't see saddling myself with enough of the hallmark things I associate with adulthood to ever reach that level. Not interested in children or owning my own house for example, which are two of the major things I associate with it.

Not anywhere near as much as I feel like I should, but I think that might be normal. One of the biggest lessons I've learned growing up is that no matter how in-control and authoritative people seemed to you when you were younger, they're all just totally making it up as they go. It's continued to be true long enough that I'm now pretty convinced the same is true of even the most powerful-seeming people in the world.

In my opinion yes, however I think the general public would disagree. I think I'm grown up in the sense that I understand what life is and that I only get to live this life once and as a result I don't want to wither away doing a constant routine, because it's 'what I'm supposed to do'. However at the same time I do place a great importance on my job and bills, as well as not giving myself early commitments like kids or a house. I want to take my time and do all the interesting things now. I can worry about kids when I start getting into my late 20s, early 30s. That way I'm getting the most satisfaction out of life.

There is no real bar you have to clear to be officially approved as an adult.

It's kind of like... to be an officially approved parent you just need to make another human. The government won't preemptively stop you

I think as long as your parents aren't completely supporting you you've qualified. There are a lot of stupid adults out there

This might turn into a rambling mess but I had a conversation with a friend of mine about this

When I was young, i saw adult hood in two tiers

Adult and elderly

Yea, I've matured since I was a teen and I'm a functioning member of society with a job and a house, but I dunno. I just feel like me. Nothing just "pops" when you leave high school, you just slowly start doing things on your own

There's a middle-aged men like my friend's dad I still feel like he's an adult over me. Maybe that has something to do with me knowing him when I was younger, and obviously he has more life experience than me, but it's a weird thought to have. We're both adults lol

It's all stemmed because my friend's little brother told us me and my friend are the coolest adults he knows and we just see ourselves as some schmos trying to survive life. It was an eye opening of sorts. "Oh yea we're grown ass men"

Maybe this is an entirely different issue all together, maybe i don't see myself as an idol to look up to, a self confidence thing. But still, this was interesting seeing this topic popped up. I hope I made SOME sense

No, having a standardized definition is counterproductive. This isn't a survey for facts, but for feels, according to one's own definition, which is the only definition that's relevant

In the practical sense I'm not, I'm still living at my parents' house and single.

But personality-wise I feel like I've come a long way, so I picked the 2nd option. I need to mature a bit more but there's a good difference between who I was at 18 and now.

Sure, but since TC doesn't know our feels without it being explained in a post, he isn't necessarily getting the answers we're giving, you know? I can vote for whatever, but unless I explain it, the vote ends up being his interpretation of 'grown-up' rather than mine. That's why I say the poll itself doesn't really make sense to me. The question itself is fine as long as you explain what you mean in the post; it's just the poll where the data will get lost in translation, so to speak.

He's not looking to see how many people fit his definition of grown-up. If he defines it as "lives mostly independently and pays taxes", he's not gonna look at a low percentage and think most of the board are still dependents of their parents, and nor does he really care about what our own definitions are. He's cognizant that the results reflect the voters' own self-reflections; that's what he wants to see
