This morning, I had a dream that I got out of bed and went to check my cell phone. When I got to my living room, I noticed that my second TV seemed to have a red light on it. Then I realized I don't have two TVs, shook my head, and I woke up in bed (somewhere over the years I figured out that when I realize I'm dreaming, I can shake my head in a certain way and I'll wake up). Except I didn't actually wake up. I got out of bed, looked around, noticed some weird stuff in my home again and then once again, quickly shook my head and woke up. Then it happened again before I finally woke up for real.

This kind of thing happens to me a few times a year. It doesn't always have the whole nested dream within a dream thing, but the basic premise of dreaming about getting out of bed, walking around my apartment and noticing something weird before waking up is the same. And when the dream within a dream thing does happen, it's sometimes gone 5 or more layers deep. Which is actually kind of disorienting and makes it take a moment to really sink in when I'm actually finally awake for real.

Am I the only one that's had this unsettlingly mundane kind of dream or is this a thing?

Not often, but it's happened to me before. Once I was taking a nap, and I dreamed that I woke up and found I got an email from the rental office saying I owed $100 for an unpaid utility bill. Then I "woke up" and found the stove in the kitchen was gone, because the landlord was going to replace it, but they didn't say how long it would take and I was pretty put out. Then I "woke up" and found the kitchen was completely empty (stove, fridge, everything). I was mad - what about all the food in the fridge? Were they going to transfer it to the new one?? I basically flipped out about the whole thing until I woke up for real.

Yeah that theme of "waking up" to discover the landlord has apparently taken away furniture and appliances for no particular reason is a recurring one for me too. And it always seems to take a while for it to sink in just how bonkers a situation it is.

I have had that kind of dream once before or at least that's the one I remember. I dreamed of a very routine thing, waking up and taking my little brother to school, but the road was different and we got lost. It felt so real and just awful.

I've had dreams where I know I'm still laying in bed with my eyes closed but I can see through my eyelids.

Not as bad as waking up, going to take a piss, shaking your head and waking up... Just a dream... except for the pissing part.

That one happened to me orz

I often have dreams where I have to go to the bathroom, but I can't for plot reasons. Like I can't find the bathroom, or all the bathrooms are closed for cleaning, or the only urinal is in the middle of a crowded hotel lobby and I decide it's not worth it.

One time, I was doing some kind of irl mafia thing, and I went to the bathroom and found a dagger stabbed through the closed toilet lid. Which obviously meant that a ninja had staked out the bathroom as his territory and was probably watching from outside the window. So I left.

Basically my brain is really good at stopping me from peeing in my sleep.

I have all kinds of weird bathroom related dreams. Like the bathroom just doesn't have a toilet or I end up going in some random basket or the floor or something. Luckily this never translates to actually peeing in reality while I'm dreaming about it.

I've gotten to the point where if I'm peeing and I don't feel relieved I know I'm dreaming and wake up

I once lived an entire week in a dream. It would have been the worst week of my life had it been real. Basically it was the week leading up to my birthday and I was getting a bunch of really awesome gifts from my friends and loved ones early so my birthday was going to be awesome. I got concert tickets to my favorite band at the time, a new husky, a ps3 and an xbox 360, a few other things that I can't recall at the moment. Then the day before my birthday all of it was taken away from me, the dog got killed, my buddy took the tickets back, all the other gifts were taken back. Everytime someone took a gift back they told me the most hurtful thing my mind could conceive. I literally woke up crying about how I was unloved and it took me a minute, it was when i realized my birthday had passed a month ago before i realized it was a dream.

I don't really dream of waking up, but I often dream that I'm having trouble sleeping. Like full on dreaming that I'm awake, unable to sleep, and tossing and turning trying to get to sleep when I'm actually already asleep. It gets weird when it blurs the line between when that actually happens and when I dream it, and it makes for a terrible sleep even when it's a dream.

I have these too, and I'll pee for like 10 minutes straight. A few nights ago I was peeing in a bathtub for so long it was getting dangerously close to overflowing
