The gist of it: my sister lives about six miles away from the venue and I'm already spending Christmas there this year. I'm like 90% sure I'll be able to stay into the first week of January and attend this thing, especially if I can see some Board 8 friends there. Lemme know!

Feb MAGfest was definitely superior. Everyone's money/work situation was better. But then you get all the college kids whining and bitching. They can't win.

hotel stuff is up to you for hotels around the area, but if you wanna stay in the gaylord (highly recommended) you gotta wait for the day when they announce theyre taking reservations

it's VERY hard to get gaylord rooms, you gotta be on twitter all week waiting for the tweet that it's gonna be a certain day, then wait all day for the registration to open. I have a friend that does it and it's fuckin' miserable

but it's totally worth it cuz it's cold as shit and walking to and from the convention sucks, being in the gaylord proper is awesome, it really does become a 3-4 day long party when you do that

Hotel room reservations for Super MAGFest 2020 will open at 7PM ET on Thursday, September 19, 2019 to anyone who pre-registered for the event prior to 11:59PM ET on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 (including pending marketplace applicants, staff, and group members whose badges are claimed and whose contact information has been entered into the system). Experient will email all eligible registrants with a link and login credentials to the hotel booking website. Receiving the link and login credentials does not guarantee room availability.

This is how it worked the last two years.

Well more accurately it's a randomly generated queue so everyone who buys before that date will have a chance to book a room but it's just a matter of what place you get assigned in line, because obviously the gaylord rooms are all taken first.

You can also always try and get rooms not held by MAGFEST, grab last minute cancellations, etc though they'll be more expensive I'm assuming

I booked a hotel that's like 15 minutes away across the bridge just in case I don't get a gaylord hotel

it's got a 15% upcharge the weekend of magfest though but I'm a AAA member so they'll let me cancel in case I get the gaylord room

I stayed in Crystal City and commuted in every day last year and it wasn't all too bad despite the train->bus taking 40 minutes. Luckily it wasn't cold as hell but I imagine if it's colder this year that would've sucked a lot lot more.

I really should look into attending.

I'm going to ColossalCon East this weekend. When I get back, I'mma buy my badge and then try really hard to get off of work next Thurs so I can get in the line for the Gaylord Rooms, but this year I'm definitely gonna get a cancellation room no matter what the cost. Not playing round with it this year.

My whole MAG-crew that runs like 18 deep at this point are all trying to get a suite. Wigs, if you don't snag a room you're more than welcome in with that because I know people are gonna flake and you were great about money and everything last time.

so you can get in at 6:58 and be just as likely as the people trying to get in there right now

So I got a room at the Gaylord for Thurs and Friday night, somehow.

What I plan on doing is calling after Thanksgiving and telling them I want to extend my stay into Monday. I'll do it once a week and I'm fairly positive I'll get it.

Looks like what probably happened with the queue was that at the moment it opened the first 800 people instantly got their booking page instead of a number. So if you got #1 on the queue you were actually behind 800 people
