Saw an article about the Mona Lisa and made me wonder what people's favourite painting(s) are, if any

B8 has a lot of people into a lot of stuff but I can't remember seeing anyone here talk about paintings before. Are there any art guys? Or is this going to be a 1-post winner?

Really fucking annoying thing - I was in Oslo last year and for some reason it completely bypassed me that The Scream is there. I actually really like that one but never went to see it. Very irritating.

Just the stuff in the Louvre and British Museum (so the Mona Lisa), but I've still never been to MOMA, Italy, or mainland Spain, so I'm missing a lot of stuff there. When I actually pay attention to it I quite like paintings and art, I just don't think about it all that often

Best art museums I've ever been to:

1. Uffizi (Florence)
2. MoMA (NYC)
3. Louvre (Paris)

The Uffizi itself feels like a work of art. It's absolutely surreal.

My favourite museum by far is the Egyptian Museum

It's a little bit off-topic since it's not really about the paintings, but holy shit the amount of stuff is unreal. Like there's stuff stacked on top of stuff and it's all really interesting and cool. I could have spent days in that thing

Mummies are super weird though and I'm not sure if I liked them or not.

Oh and I forgot. There was a Picasso exhibit at the Firestation museum in Doha a couple of years back, I saw a bunch of Picassos there.

In terms of well-known paintings I will always love The Scream.

Otherwise, I think this one maybe, but anything but Zdzislaw Bekinski is gold.

Good taste in this topic, both artists I was going to mention have already been said.

I was going to say either anything by Zdzislaw Beksinski for weird/fucked up art. This one is a favorite of mine:

https://beksstore.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/113.jpg

Or Starry Night by Van Gogh for calming/peaceful and generally because Van Gogh is one of my favorite people in history.

Painting is my shit dude. I'm probably the biggest art nerd on the board, seen dozens of exhibitions although admittedly I've yet to see anything in Europe. Most impressive piece I've seen in person is probably Napoleon Crossing the Alps by Jacques Louis-David, although it's harder to get the full force of it without it towering over you (I've seen Persistence of Memory at the MoMA but it's really just a tiny thing) https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/fd/David_-_Napoleon_crossing_the_Alps_-_Malmaison2.jpg

Here's some other faves off the top of my head. Also dig anything by Dali, Bekskinski, Ernst, Bacon, Caravaggio, Auerbach, Stella

Actually, the more I think about it, the more it might be Les Demoiselles d'Avignon.

https://uploads1.wikiart.org/images/pablo-picasso/the-girls-of-avignon-1907.jpg!Large.jpg

It's hard to overstate how much that painting completely turned the art world on its head. Picasso was a hypertalented traditional painter. Then he took the human form and completely transformed it like no one had done before.
