Quinnipiac poll: 2020 Democrats

Biden 34% (+12 since a month ago)
Warren 15% (+1)
Harris 12% (-8)
Sanders 11% (-2)
Buttigieg 6% (+2)
ORourke 2% (+1)
Yang 2% (+1)

[everyone else 1% or less]

margin of error: +/- 5 points

Consider it called.

Biden is the only chance of beating Trump. They even did an article in Michigan on CNN the other day where they were talking to people and a lot of them said the far left candidates for Dems concerned them greatly.

He also polled higher than Hillary there in the general. Just ignore anyone citing a mainstream media source about horse race politics that say Bernie won't win. They actively do not want him to win. Period.

Nope. I think it has more to do with this:

Biden gets 53 percent of black Democrats, with 8 percent for Sanders, 7 percent for Harris and 4 percent for Warren

It's why Harris is trying to portray him as Strom Thurmond.

Biden gets trounced in the general. "Sleepy Joe" is top tier for nicknames.

Ultimately, Biden is kind of boring and middle of the road, no new or exciting ideas, not very brilliant, career politician with no major accomplishments to his name. On the other side, you have Donald Trump, brilliant businessman who made bankruptcy and tax avoidance into high art forms, and the politician of a generation who tore down our political institutions and remade them in his image. As president, he has ushered in the greatest period of economic prosperity in decades.

I mean, who would you rather have negotiating with China? Biden is a nicer person than Trump but he's completely outclassed everywhere else.

Democrats thought that in 2016 too. The exit polls showed people who disliked both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump voted for Trump at about a 2:1 ratio. People really underestimate just how much a good segment of voters loathe centrist Democrats.

Here's the deal. Every Republican senator and representative will go on vacation for a month in August and will be enjoying nature without access to phone, internet, etc. The Democrats will have totally free rein to talk with Trump. Whatever they get him to agree to, the Republican Senate agrees to pass upon their return from vacation. In the absence of a deal to the contrary, the Democrats agree to appropriate $25 billion for the Wall.

Deal or no deal?

My claim was specifically meant to be about centrists, which is how I understand the term indepedent to be typically used in everyday speech (and I believe is what Corrik is referring to).

No it is not particularly surprising to me that Bernie Sanders ends up winning the demographic that is ideologically liberal but does not want to align themselves with the Democratic party.

I'm not even sure that helps Trump compared to 2016. Back in 2016 he didn't have any real track record in politics, so it was easy for people to assume Trump really supported only the popular stuff he said and none of the unpopular stuff. Today it's much easier to find evidence of what Trump would actually do as president, and other than "good economy" most of it isn't well-liked outside of the Republican base.

I think Hillary was significantly better than Biden will be at turning out her base to vote. Though maybe that's not really relevant; nobody cares how much the Democrat runs up the score by in CA and NY. But there are probably a significant number of people in swing states who turned out in 16 to vote in the first female president who stay home if someone as boring as Biden is the nominee.

Though maybe that's not really relevant; nobody cares how much the Democrat runs up the score by in CA and NY. But there are probably a significant number of people in swing states who turned out in 16 to vote in the first female president who stay home if someone as boring as Biden is the nominee.

I feel like more people turned out to vote AGAINST the first female president in swing states (blue collar states, specifically), than for her.

I think Hillary was significantly better than Biden will be at turning out her base to vote. Hillary was also better at getting her opponent's base to vote, though. There's probably a significant number of people who turned out in 2016 to anti-vote Hillary who stay home when it's just boring old Biden.

Today it's much easier to find evidence of what Trump would actually do as president, and other than "good economy" most of it isn't well-liked outside of the Republican base.

i also think the importance of the "good economy" factor is overrated, really. i think there was a red sox poll that asked if users here had more income now than when trump became president and the majority voted "yes." yet trump remains quite unpopular on this board.

Democrats...please learn something from 2016:

https://www.google.com/amp/s/fivethirtyeight.com/features/why-sanders-does-better-with-independents/amp/

Independent doesnt mean Centrist, for one.

Adding to this, there was an interesting recent poll that showed several progressive policies were pretty reasonably popular with independents and moderates.

https://twitter.com/cascamike/status/1153502768851816449?s=19

In addition to what's listed in the tweet, gun control and public option healthcare are also very popular in those groups at over 70% approval. The GOP had better cater to the moderates' support of progressive policies if they want to win!

Super surprising that accused child rapist Alan Dershowitz once wrote an oped saying that the age of consent should be lowered!:

Does this have to do with the Senate resolution by one of the Montana senators that's literally just to condemn socialism?

A family member here has CNN on.

They are having a 10 minute discussion about how Trump is racist adjacent and finding all sorts of alternative words to avoid alienating whatever viewers they can.

Literal argument, they want to call him a bigot and not a racist because his words are hurtful not just to blacks, but jews and whole bunch of other various groups.

Literally calling him a racist and then trying to justify saying you cant call him racist because he fits into all these other horrible things.

Basically, the "liberal" media is fucking trash at not just being in Trump's pocket.
