She came by at about 2 to tell me she hadn't done any work today and asked if she could give me all of her case tickets. She was too upset from a coworker of ours (who is kind of a dick) to work all day. I asked her if she could try to do a few and she said no because she wanted to go home. I suggested she take her dog (she brings her dog to work almost every day) for a walk to collect herself. She says she's been doing that for three hours -_-

On one hand, I get it because people are assholes and the work culture is shitty but it is a place of work. I went to said third party and another joined in. I was trying to tell him that whatever this was, he should figure it out because it's affecting my work. They both suggested I give a flat no and then they brought our manager into it. We discussed it briefly and decided action steps.

I drafted an email to our project manager (this is involving 2/3 the entire team now) reporting what is going on and I'm trying to find the original party to tell her no (I admittedly dragged my ass on this because it seemed very uncomfortable; I hate going over people's heads but this girl is abandoning her job and leaving me out to dry) and sent it, copying my manager as he requested. Two minutes later I get a reply from them asking to take on all her cases for the day because she had a personal emergency and needed to go home. This is past 3 pm now.

When I tell you I felt like chopped liver

Clearly I didn't handle this the best since I got stuck with it but I absolutely hate this culture and job. I'm an outsourced contractor and these people are salaried employees. I'm getting laid off in two weeks. Ah well, they're the ones going to have to deal with each other.

The thing is, the culture enforces it. I'm going to leave and there will be five new people on the team of seven who are different within the 6 months and change when I started. Two project managers moved on to different roles and they've churned through three temps including me. This is an operations division for one of the biggest companies in the world.

I don't want to work in a Corp like this anymore, that's for sure.

What the fuck is the job?

If I was "too upset to work all day" I'd be fucking fired from my last job, and that was working for my father.

I handle client contacts for the b2b division for a major retailer.

Literally the POC for billions of dollars in sales and they don't give the slightest fuck. So I kind of do because it's my job but honestly fuck them.

We worked in public family law.

If father abruptly quit then a mess of mentally ill people suddenly lost their kids and had a target.

People's lives aren't at stake. It's corporate retail. The way these people act you'd think there are, however, and I get yelled at for not caring enough while posting really good numbers.

I knew it was a sham of course. It's a job and a shitty one at that. I just hate that I tried to be proactive and got shafted. I think it was unavoidable because of my position.

I can only try to work on and control my own actions tbh but I'm an hourly employee and this leaves me exhausted after hours despite not being a nurse or anything actually useful.
