Know what the money youre giving them is going towards. Newsflash, its heroin and meth. Ive arrested the same homeless guy for trespassing like 10 times this year. Every time he has several hundred bucks he gets from panhandling. Its all spent on heroin and he gets mad at me when I impound his paraphernalia for evidence as well when I ticket him for narc para. This paragraph applies to the same 10-15 people in my area

We have incredible resources that will help them get clean, temporary housing, id/paperwork they need/ permanent jobs. If they want to go back to their home state, our city will literally cut them a bus ride out of town. Weve even updated peoples records in our system to reflect that they have declined resources and how many times they declined it. On average it takes 17 contacts with an individual before they accept resources. Ive met a lot of homeless people that have had bad luck and actually need the help. And theyre off the streets faster than they were on it because they use the resources
