because it will cause inflation. highschool students should not be able to make 30k a year by microwaving burgers. I used to be a Walmart sporting goods employee and Id sell a firearm everytime I took one out of a case to show someone, and I only made $9 an hour. I became the manager of that section and only got paid $10, Now that's highly underpaid. Now I fix planes for 65k a year. thatd be probably $31 an hr. People should only be paid relative to the skill requirement for the job.

If minimum wage actually kept up with worker productivity, it would be $30. $15 is lowballing it hard.

Higher wages mean fewer employees. Businesses want to profit. They keep the min amount of employees to profit. The more they get paid, the lower that number gets.

Inflation was already happening while minimum wages lagged behind for decades. If previous generations could make higher minimum wages (relative to inflation and cost of living) why would it be so harmful today?

So true. Productivity has risen dramatically and wages have stayed relatively the same.

This. Yet the ignorant masses will continue to be unaware at how bad the elites have absolutely scammed the working class out of fair wages for the past 30-40 years. The datas all there, but theyll continue to shill for their kings and talk about burger-flippers dont deserve to live! hurr!

Because millions of jobs will be lost. CBO forecast four million people out of work from a $15 minimum wage.

There shouldn't be a minimum wage in the first place, and unskilled labor would settle right around there.

What field were you interning in, and where did you live?

Most internships I've seen in my area in engineering/medical/etc. were all $12 - 18 per hour.

tbf the current federal minimum wage is $7.25 - some states do have higher standard minimum wages, but many states do not. So $15 is over double the current federal minimum. Also the federal minimum hasn't been raised since 2009...

Setting aside the fact that many adults work minimum wage job, does America not have tiered minimum wage depending on your age?

We do in Britain, so if you are 16-18 you earn a certain amount, then 18-21 I think it is, another tier, then another for up to 25, and then more for above?

Or something like that at least, I don't recall the actual tiers off hand.

Dont be obtuse.

Other wages aint going up. Prices will. Businesses will keep their profit margins the buying power for an average dude like me just goes down.

If it was a sliding scale whatever.... still wouldnt accomplish a thing in the end tbh. But at least its not taking my 24 an hour and making it effectively worth less for a guy at an entry level unskilled job to be within ten an hour of me.
