As a huge fan of FE, I'll definitely be getting it day one. The latest ones aside from SoV were terrible, so I'm hoping this one is better. Apparently, there aren't any of the waifu bullshit of the latest games, so this one does have hope.

I gave the series a chance with awakening and was underwhelmed by it. That basically killed my interest in FE.

Awakening and Fates are like the worst games in the series(even worse than the DS remake of 1, which was considered the worst until the 3DS games came out). You really should check out FE6(never officially released outside the U.S., but there are very good fan translations for it), and FE7(just known as Fire Emblem in the Western world).

Romance, but no kids. It seems to be similar to pre-Awakening supports, where some couples with max support do get married after the end.

Like you get married and have kid units, get "bonding time" with your little waifu(in the game, like Fates), etc...

The fans will always make stupidass waifu bullshit, but when the games support and spend resources developing that shit, it's not right.

in battles you can pair people up o build friendship between chars and watch scenes of them interacting between chapters. You can have them get married and things of that nature.This mechanic was only a minor thing in games like path of radiance but in awakening it's kind of the most important mechanic in the game. If you compare old FE to new FE entries you will see how different the support conversations are treated. Bond support went from a minor feature to where marrying chars off is basically the centre of the game

I don't think the waifu stuff will be a major part of Three Houses, at least when compared to Awakening and Fates.
With that said, it looks like there are more ways to interact with different characters in Three Houses considering the whole school aspect of the game...

As for which house I'm choosing...

I don't have a Switch; maybe when the Switch Lite comes out I'll get it and FE: Three Houses. I can't justify spending full price on a Switch.

This is the first I've bothered to look up what the three houses are. I'll probably first take Black Eagles because their name sounds the coolest to me. >_>

One of my favorite JRPG series, second only to Super Robot Wars. Day One purchase for me, as it has been since '03 (except for Radiant Dawn, since that one was released when the Wii was still a little difficult to find).

Tall Midget is right, though: The fandom is awful, especially here on Game FAQs. If you want a positive experience with this series, avoid those boards and go into the game clean.

I've wanted to play a FE game forever and preemptively decided to buy the first one on Switch... ,but man does it look meh. The art style is so bland and lifeless, the graphics seem subpar and the premise is a really stupid excuse to pander to the waifu and persona crowd from what I gather. I guess I'll buy it and hope the gameplay makes up for it.

All that said the only info I'm going off of is the two or three times it's shown up in Nintendo Directs, haven't looked up anything else about it.

A lot of the animation seems really stilted and awkward to me, which is a concern, because I saw a literal story cutscene that looks like an amateur made it. The art style itself is also very lifeless compared to even other games in the series. Maybe it's just the eyes of the characters, but they all look like they're staring into the abyss blankly. It's not a good look. The lazy shading doesn't appeal to me either.

I really dislike that only the main character can get S-ranks, which hampers characters developing with each other heavily (and a lot get cut off before even getting to A-rank). In a similar regard I just plain have next to no interest in the personalities of the characters and their designs are very bland in comparison to absolutely any of the other games in the series. I also think the amount of characters you're allowed access to in each route is very limited and basically only one route actually has any I would remotely care about, meaning I would have no reason to want to play through multiple times to do the other routes...

I didn't really enjoy many of the changes Fates made to the gameplay as I found them unnecessary and this game is just continuing the trend, which doesn't encourage me to play it. I also feel like they're just shoehorning in really random features (like fishing) to try to make the game more of what it isn't, and it's kinda..cheap? Like it's a distraction from them not fixing legitimate problems and instead just shitposting.

And this is a personal thing that wouldn't really matter if the rest of the game looked good to me, but I am kind of rubbed the wrong way that there is one singular gay support but there are five lesbian ones. And before you say there's three gay supports...no. Two of them are fakeouts and one of them even ends with the main character marrying some random unnamed woman at the end.

Gonna be real with you and say taking two steps back on supports instead of taking any steps forward isn't a good thing. It may have been the norm then but it doesn't automatically make it a good thing to go back to it.

Edit: Also, I've played...most of the other games in the series with the exception of a few of the earliest ones. I'm not coming off this as a spurned Awakening and Fates fanboy or something.
