bit late since it was released yesterday but oh well. This is another adaptation I'm really hyped for, as a big fan of the books and who's still salty over the movie.

This looks really good so far. Sad we didn't get to hear Iorek talking, and even as a Lin-Manuel fan, him being in the role of Lee is...kind of weird. But oh well, everything else looks

I'm sure they are. No way they'd have him go unvoiced.

I'll watch it, wife is excited for it. She's read all the books, i've only seen the Golden Compass film.

Hopefully you like it more. The Golden Compass movie has a really good cast, it's mostly the completely botched ending that has book fans up in arms. I can see less nitpicky book fans or non-book fans liking it well enough. :)

Not a fan of the writing style or just the story was a bit slow for your tastes? If the latter, the other two books, especially the third, are *crazy.*

Other wise, I cried when I saw the movie. They're was not one ounce of Justice for the book. ...... Movie was awful AND they changed her hair to FUCKING BLONDE. Nicole Kidman made an awful character and mockery of the book.
I hope this one explains more than the first one.

To be fair, a lot of people really loved Kidman's portrayal of Coulter. Even Philip Pullman thought she was great for the role and regretted not making her blonde in the first place. So much so that he retconned it and new editions state her as blonde, as well as in La Belle Sauvage, the first book of the sequel trilogy.

Critically it was "meh" iirc. Financially I don't think it did.

Aight yeah I looked it up. In the US it financially underperformed. Internationally it did a LOT better and kind of made up for it, but they felt a sequel wasn't worth it and scrapped it.

I was unmoved and was open to her playing the role, but she was hollow. To me at least. Coulter was meaty, cunning, silent but loud with presence and commanded all rooms. Kidman tried. I am happy Pullman like her. But the dark hair would've def inspired a like in her direction. But, to each their own! :)

As someone who never read the books, it was...alright. Had some nice acting and set-pieces, but ultimately felt like a mishmash of fantasy tropes without much context. My biggest problem was that at times the progression of the adventure was more important than actual character progression, almost to parody levels: for instance, Gandalf-Bear finally defeats his longtime rival in single combat, and is immediately like: 'great, that's over, now we must makes for the Cliffs of Xadgaroveadgndr!'

I only saw it once in theaters though, so my memory might be hazy. I am intrigued to see what they can do with this story in an ongoing television series.

That's literally what happened. And it was bouncy. Nothing tied to the next. Plus, it was an hour n a half long movie that couldn't even cover the first 3 chapters..... The only effort I saw put into that movie was the cast, and it was great selection (beside Kidman, IMHO) I was so proud to see Sam Elliott in there, a wonderful surprise; Craig Daniel was an excellent Lord Asriel and the girl who played Lyra- she was Lyra. She was perfect .

Is it weird I hope to see Dakota in the new TV series? Maybe in just a cameo role. Or maybe even as Mary. :x They're about the same age now I think.

yeah definitely! Not saying you're wrong or anything, Kidman is still polarizing for her portrayal for us fans. Despite liking Kidman, myself, I really liked Coulter from what we saw in this trailer. She gave me chills.

Yeah, this Coulter was what I imagined. She's not as elegant and seductive as my imagination was for the book, but she has the guts and glory!
