This feels like it is the majority of modern boss design and I hate it. Worse when they tease you by forcing you to constantly do chip damage but you still wont win unless you hit the pre-determined vulnerable part of their attack pattern. (Looking at YOU FF7 remake <_<)

No one mentioned unskippable cutscenes and that should be the first thing.

Don't misquote me I'm not one of those "OMG You want STORY in your games!?" idiots. I love when video games do cutscenes or stories right.

But for the love of god give us the option to skip them.

I mean FFX has like 10 hours of unskippable cutscenes you have to endure if you ever want to replay it

I hate lazy level design where your character can jump but then there's an open door that you can't get through because there's one ream of paper on the ground in the doorway.

I like games where you interact with the world to improve your gear and character (like hunting animals or gathering materials or buying/upgrading/investing in property), but I hate when they take it to such an extreme that you'd have to double your play time just to max everything out.

A dual boss fight at the very end of a large open area barren wasteland that you have to trek through every time you die with infinitely respawning powerful enemies that literally come out of nowhere because the gimmick of the area is that there is a blizzard that picks up for a few seconds and then dies down for a few seconds and the enemies spawn in the blizzard when you can't see shit

- AI's cars rubberbanding in racer games.
- Debuffs, and spells not applying to bosses
- Enemies clipping solid objects and walls causinh potential damage to my character.
- Arbitrarily losing all of your gear through scripted events.
- NG+ omitting certain items in from the previous run.
- Your super human character not being able to climb or jump over waist high surfaces, thus forcing you to go the long route.
- Not being able to loot the fallen enemies weapons and gear.

Loot with like sub 1% drop rates. Valuable loot is always better when it's earned through difficult side quests or specific requirements that give you a real goal to aim for. If you enjoy item grinding, you're weird, sorry. One thing I absolutely hate is having my time wasted in games.

There's a bit in Nier 1 where they make fun of this

You already have the item you get for beating a quest to progress the story and the character actually says "Didn't we already have this?"

And another goes "Shh! Some things are just not going to make sense in New Game+, roll with it."

In the classic Castlevania games and ninja gaiden games if you had to take the stairs/ladder to go to the next screen. If you instead fell it'd kill you instead of transitioning. Even if you fell at the exact point the stairs/ladder end it'd still count as falling into a pit.

That reminds me... fuck the dodge mechanic in Fallout 4.

The awkward human sidestep makes a little sense and is easy to compensate for. The ghoul random zigzag crawling is annoying but at least you can deal with it with the right weapons. But I don't need random bloatflies suddenly leaping sideways like they activated an invisible jet engine dodging my shot. I was just going to splat them in one shot anyway so it only serves to be annoying.

I hate games where enemies damage you simply by making contact. That stupid squid boss in MMX5 was the biggest annoyance not because he was hard, but because he spent a majority of the time literally just trying to bump into you. Not ramming speed, not electrifying himself to tackle you (since he was an electric squid for God knows what reason). He just slowly floated over to you.

Also 3000 IQ AI, although it can be hilarious. Exhibit A: Alpharad's DK Amiibo (Turn down your volume lol)
