Even on the campaign trail, he was a civil and upstanding man and treated his political opponents with respect.

I didnt agree with a ton of his positions.

And even when he made a good stand like against Betsy Devos, he showed how corrupt he was by then changing his vote in favor of her after receiving a mere $30k in contributions.

But...

He did stop the obliteration of the ACA.

And who among us is perfect? None. We are defined by the moments where we stand up and excel, and ascend. Its because of this that... I like John McCain.

None of that happened once he was a politician. He was complete shit just like the rest of them.

In 2008, while campaigning against Obama, a supporter at a town-hall was asking him a question and insisted that Obama was an Arab Muslim, McCain shut her down immediately, taking the microphone back from her and gently but firmly correcting her that Obama was "a decent family man," who wanted the best for America and that they simply disagreed about what that meant. When another audience member insisted that he had strong ties to domestic terrorists and that they feared what an Obama president would mean, McCain again pushed back and explained that there was no reason to be frightened if Obama won.

Can you imagine Trump doing that today? Can you imagine *anyone* from the Republican party doing that today?

Because I sure can't.

Yeah, there were times, like I stated above, where he was JUST like the rest of them.

But like Darth Vader, he had that one moment where he did the right thing. Just like when he voted against the repeal of the ACA, and just like in the video the TC posted.

I guess what Im saying is... he resembled more of a conflicted, greedy human being than the cold, nasty reptilian that is Mitch McConnell.

Which is why, in the opinion of conservative and libertarian minded Americans, a big chunk of his legacy will be just that: a despicable failure. Very shameful. The ACA was a garbage piece of legislation and literally unconstitutional.

Dollars to doughnuts he would not have done that had he not been on death's door.

Ross Perot passed away two weeks ago.

I barely knew anything about him at the time, other than the Halloween Simpsons episode where he destroys his hat when people say they have no real choice but to vote for the two aliens.

But reading up on him, he seemed like a pretty incredible guy. Pulling 19% of the votes in a modern election as a third party is insane, and his rhetoric about our trade imbalance and rising debt was prescient and still ignored. Plus, from the anecdotes I've read, he was, like McCain, very civil and respectful to people w/ different political views and did a lot to help veterans.

Figured I'd just mention him here, since it's the same sentiment as I had for McCain, and unfortunately it seems like no one else is gonna mention Perot.

The ACA gave healthcare to 32 million American citizens that otherwise wouldn't be able to afford healthcare. Also, the original ACA was much better before Obama had to change it up to get Republicans to vote for it. It's not his fault Republicans fucked it up, like how they always fuck shit up.

Literally 32 million Americans who will grow up suckling on the teat of communism. Better dead than red.

I'm sorry that being poor, disabled, but not disabled enough, etc... is a death sentence in your eyes. I mean, almost every single first world country out there has single payer healthcare system(Australia being a standout going from single payer to privatized, and having the wait time at hospitals get way longer after the change), but this is communism, huh?

Better dead than red.

A good motto about how distasteful it is to vote for modern day Republicans, indeed.

No, it's still apt for communism.
