Need unbiased opinions.

Scenario; you and others in the family get a text message from a family member saying they're getting married in ten days. Would it be okay for the people to who received said text message to invite people to said wedding without telling the people getting married (not as a +1, they aren't attending the wedding themselves, just telling someone else they can/should go)?

Edit: End parentheses for clarification.

No, unless you've been specifically told you can bring someone.

That's a good way to put it. You should always come alone unless they're your +1 and they are aware you are bringing a guest on your RSVP

What if the person doing the inviting isn't coming themselves?

Exactly. Weddings are typically set up with a specific number of people in mind. Several guests bringing unaccounted for companions can cause a big problem. Not enough food, seats, etc.

If you are unsure for any reason you ask the person throwing the wedding. The 10 days in this scenario is plenty of time to get clarification. A simple "Can I bring a date?" in a response to the announcement message will do the job.

This is basic etiquette.

That might actually be worse. If that person wants to go, then they should ask.

I say it's okay if there isn't a reception. TC doesn't specify.

The only acceptable scenario to invite anyone to a wedding for any reason is if you're bringing them as your +1. Inviting anyone else even by implication kind of makes you an asshole.

I would say no. if you are gong to invite others it's best to ask the bride and groom if it's ok unless they specifically say you can bring a +1.

Absolutely not. If they wanted then there, they'd have invited them. A plus one is one thing, that's a whole other beast.

Depends on the bride. Weddings ceremonies are typically far more important to women then men.

And as such, most women want their wedding to be "perfect", and that includes only the people they want showing up.

However, like I said, it depends on the bride, if she doesn't care, then it doesn't matter.

I really doubt anyone involved cares about anything. Ten days notice via text? Bunch of crazy people in here saying you shouldn't bring someone.
