Do you remember the whole show, various parts of the show, or single moments?

For me, just about every show, if I think back on them I only see one scene, the same scene every time. I can think of others if I think about it, but it is always the same scene the first time the show enters my mind. Doesn't really matter what show it is.

I think thats how memory works in general

You can think critically about something and remember all sorts of images and details, but when something gets discussed or mentioned your mind typically goes to a specific image or moment that you associate with it

I think we all have that one image of a show that pops into our heads when it's first mentioned, but it gets followed by other memories of the show.
Like Buffy for example. My first thought when the show is brought up is always Buffy's swan dive at the end of season 5.
Same applies for Charmed, Firefly, G.I. Joe, Thundercats, Gargoyles.
I think the only show I've ever watched that doesn't work like that is the Law & Order shows. all that just blended together.

It was a movie but I only remember the part where the sand person jumped up with his stick when Luke was looking through the binoculars in Star Wars. I would've been 3 or 4 at the theater and it scared the shit out of me lol.

Without actually re-watching the show, I just think of particular moments in the show; sometimes a line of dialogue. But I couldn't tell you what the episode is about.

When I think of Gargoyles My mind pans to the scene when Xanatos' servant turns his own arm into stone, and another where, at the end of the episode, Goliath eats a jalapeo and screams "Jalapeno!" That echoes through the city.

I always remembered Rita throwing her sceptre, causing a fissure from which the Zords appeared.

I don't remember anything pretty much at this point.

I liked TMNT.....I remember it involved pizza, and I can name a few of them /shredder etc, but that is about it.

And that is only due to it being brought up/reminded about it over the years over and over.

No memories of anything I have not seen/been reminded of in the last 10 years though.

I can quote every spoken line in order in a lot of shows I used to watch. My memory is more verbal than visual, but it's near-photographic.

Or, at least, it used to be. As I get older, I've noticed I'm starting to get the stereotypical old people "senior moment" sort of memory blackouts where I can't remember things as well as I used to.

I may have to defrag my hard drive.

I remember overall tone but not really any specific things outside of like, catch phrases or something. That's why I prefer to keep things as pleasant memories from childhood. Example: I loved the Zelda cartoon as a kid. I barely remember anything outside of "Excuuuuuse me, princess!" and I'm ok with keeping it that way.

I think some of it comes from not having as much access to reruns/multiple watching options like we do today. Streaming services, digital downloads, physical media...

Yeah depends. Like animaniacs I remember the songs and hello nurse, and scenes like that. Beast wars, I bought the box set and watch that shit all the time.

Other shows. Like biker mice from mars I remember watching and enjoying it, but nothing about the show itself.

Depends on the show and how many years ago. I can remember Batman the Animated Series better (show and parts) more than G.I. Joe because I was much older watching it and it's more recent. Let's not get into writing and episode quality.

Comparing it to Pirates of Dark Water, another cartoon which aired around the same time as Batman, I watched and I remember almost NOTHING about it. Only bits and pieces, a few memories. I know I watched every episode before it was canceled.

Just like with my memories of my life they are fragmented.
