I agree. People will come in and say "oh no it didn't follow the exact events of the book". While the first movie did have it's flaws, it mostly got the heart and soul of the book and the feeling I had when I read it, which in my mind is a great adaption.

Yup, that's why I specified novel, as those are a novella and serial, respectively >.>;

In reality King hasn't had a lot of good adaptations of his full novels. IT, Dead Zone, Carrie(kinda), and that's about it that I can think of :/

His novellas and short stories have some amazing stuff though.

I honestly didn't think either Pet Sematary was that great, though the original was way better than the travesty that was the remake. They just felt meh to me, especially compared to the book that was probably the most bleak thing King has done.

One of the best sure.

It will never be better than Shawshank Redemption or Green Mile though.

It, Shawshank, Green Mile are the only good ones.

The Outsider is becoming a miniseries by HBO so that has potential.

If it followed the book exactly the movie would've been illegal to show.

I disagree, but welcome to your opinion. I know many consider it a horrendous adaptation, when I still feel it comes across in the same "creepy, slowly going insane" vibe.

The problem is in the characters. The Shining is supposed to be about a troubled but caring father slowly succumbing to his demons. In the movie, Jack is just straight asshole from the beginning, there's no real descent.

It's been a while since i read some of the books, most of the time I have more memory of the movies than the books.

Cujo, Pet Sematary, Carrie and Christine were all pretty good.

Of the ones i read, the only one i can remember seeing that had very notable differences was the Shining which was still amazing.

A lot of the other movies i saw i didn't read the books, but i liked some and thought others were really bad.

I cant wait until we get a remake of The Stand.

The original was okay at the time. Very true to the book from what I recall. Some of the acting was a bit dull and the special effects were corny as fuck. Molly Ringwald is awful. Jamey Sheridan's portrayal of Flagg was fucking dope though.

It's meant to be a parable of sorts for King's alcoholism.

Through that lens it's pretty easy to see why he hates the movie.

It's a really personal story.

It was very good. Whenever you bring that up a lot of people will bring up Tim Curry's performance as pennywise in the made for TV adaption, without realizing that outside of him the acting was atrocious and he basically carried the whole thing on his back from beginning to end. The modern version is a lot more well rounded.

So far, imo, both tone and content have been more accurate in the original miniseries.

Movie is seriously missing out on the nostalgia/coming of age stuff, which was closer like 50% of the book or more. It really was a story that made love to the idea of childhood. Plus, Pennywise just seems...incorrect.

The tone of the miniseries was awful. It was far more comedy than horror, and super campy. And the movie has tons of coming of age, the only time it really feels off is the rock war scene.

And pennywise is damn near perfect. Especially because the movie really shows that pennywise corrupts the whole town, something the miniseries missed.
