TaMiya Dickerson and her family say they were racially profiled at a California Nike store by a white manager who accused them of STEALING a $12 basketball they'd already BOUGHT and called the cops!!

They took their 18 month old son, Sammy to the store at Santa Monica Place shopping mall on July 5 as they weren't planning on buying anything until their son picked up a Nike Swoosh Mini basketball and started carrying it around.

So they purchased the ball and left the store when the heifer rushed to them and accused them of shoplifting!!

TaMiya's husband explained they just bought the ball as their son was playing with it when they left but the manager didn't believe him and continued to follow them before flagging down a Santa Monica Police Officer for help

That's when they began filming it after 3 cops got involved

She said "This is ridiculous, we purchased this basketball in the store." and then throws the basketball on the ground before the manager picked it up

They finally got it back after showing the receipt to the officers but after the altercation they went back to the store for a refund

The Manager made a brief statement that the family had been walking out with the ball WITHOUT IT BAGGED and that was a cause for concern and demanded to see the receipt despite cashier vouching for them

The manager NEVER apologized as Tamiya said she had zero evidence they stole anything and she didn't have any cause she had a receipt for it and said they discriminated against her

TaMiya says "She planted an evil seed in the officer so as soon as the officer came up to me, he said, Miss, give me the stolen ball"

They have now hired a lawyer on the humiliating incident and said "What we're hoping to do is to get Nike to have some sort of understanding and meeting of the minds to find out this was an isolated incident act, or is this something is more pervasive within the society of employees they hire".

Nike has not returned comment as this is the latest in a long series of incidents involving white men and women harassing African Americans for innocuous behaviour

Do you think the manager was right to demand a receipt because they walked out with the ball without it bagged??

...why didn't they just show the manage the receipt from the get-go? It seems like 99% of these incidents could be easily resolved like that. I got accused of shoplifting a few times as a kid, but it never turned into a news story. Shit, I feel like I lost the ability to cash in on my mild inconvenience.

At what point did the cashier vouch for them?
