I was tempted when I noticed the price drop at Best Buy but... when I was going through the selection, I'm just still seeing enough there. Granted, if I didn't own FFVII, it would have been an insta-buy. However, it only has 20 games and, of those, maybe 5 of them jump out at me (and that includes FFVII)

Anybody here bother picking it up? Do you like it?

PAL versions on half the games, some games that don't deserve to be on there, no DualShock controller, excessive absence of first-party titles, absolutely no game enhancements whatsoever, the very fact that Sony did not allow PS1 games on PS4 was to sell this console, and the very fact that early polygonal based games tend to age like poop.

I say nope.

I bought a Vita TV for the same price, and it plays Vita, PSP and PS1 games and remote play PS4, with a Dualshock. And when hacked it does more than a hacked Classic.

If I saw it for 20 I'd probably buy it. It's not something I absolutely must have though.

At $20, if you intend to mod it, it's a steal. It's not worth anything stock.

I'd get one for $20. I prefer the japanese one but NA one is okay for just wild arms and puzzle fighter.

Yo I didn't know it had puzzle fighter. That's worth the price of admission right there.

At that price, I'd probably get one just to hack. Otherwise I have PSTV and own most of the games on PSN or disc. Really the only one I don't have access to is Battle Arena Toshinden, which isn't on PSN.

I'm thinking about getting one just for FFVII since I haven't played it for so long.

Yeah. They didn't give the PS4 PS1 support because screw that. Then they made the Classic because hey, easy money.

The Classic would have been a sure buy if it supported PSN to download owned PS1 Classic purchases. Just offer a coupon with some system exclusives that only come with the system, give it a good bit of storage (16 / 32 GB would be plenty enough for PS1 games) and boom, would have been a popular system.

At least, you'd think it should have been. Seems like a no-brainer, the PS1 has some exceptionally strong titles. The PSC even includes a few. The ball was just dropped hard with execution. I think it would have been much better received, even despite the inclusion of the original bone controllers, had they just given it another few months in development to make absolutely certain the emulation was top notch. The hardware is more than capable, proven by running newer and more optimized code. As-is, it shipped with some notable games and totally regrettable performance. The reason the Nintendos printed money isn't just because the game lists are solid, but the whole experience was comparatively quite good.

That's an interesting point. Will need to look into it.

Yeah, if it had access to a decent library of other ps1 games, that would have given it some value.

I already own FF7 and Wild Arms.

Why would I get a PS classic for 2 games?

I got the NES, SNES and PSXclassic. But they will remain unopened. My way chosen way to play classic games is raspberry pi + Retropie. But still got to support these kind of devices.

I have a PSP, Vita, Vita TV, PS2, and PS3. They can all play PS1 games in some shape or form. I have no use for some SoC emulator.

But none of them are a SoC like the PS1 Classic. They have other functions aside from emulating PS1 games. Also, it's not even pure emulation. PS2, PS3 and PSP have architecture similar to the PS1, and that's why even PS3 Slims can emulate PS1 games and why the PSP can emulate PS1 games at all. Not that it matters though. The point is that I have several devices that do the same thing as the PS1 Classic Mini and more.
