Never really cared for watching baseball in real life, but after testing the waters, this is winning me over by hitting all the right bromance rhythms. It's been roughly as good as early Yowamushi Pedal (cycling anime). The MC pitcher is stupid as hell, though, so it's been a struggle to put up with hi antics, lmao. Being stupid for NOT watching television is an interesting trope subversion, though.

Hopefully things keep on keepin' on. Up to episode 39 or something.

PS: feel free to rec me more sports anime. I already have One Outs on my radar.

It's certainly better than Big Windup. MC in that was fucking insufferable

Eyeshield 21 is kind of zany. Haikyuu is also pretty good

Kuroko's Basketball
It's ridiculously over the top and dramatic. Everyone also is like some sort of superhuman Naruto ninja level shit with their powers. Its fucking great.

Hajime Ippo
It's like Rocky but with anime flair. Oddly enough the comedy aspects are pretty good too.

Eyeshield = maybe, since I like football
Hajime no Ippo = ehh, I don't care about boxing
Kuroko's B-ball = maybe, since I love b-ball
Big Windup = if the MC is an idiot...I don't think my heart could take another baseball anime like that
Haikyuu = ehh, I don't care about volleyball/tennis

Honestly everyone else in Big Windup is great but holy fuck the pitcher is just such a little bitch. They make him out to be traumatized and the way he acts you assume it's because his former team beat the shit out of him everyday but nah

I will say that the way they make his skill out to be at pitching is at least interesting

the only sports anime that I've seen are: Days (soccer), Hajime no Ippo (boxing), Mix (baseball), and Ping Pong: The Animation (ping pong, of course), and I've liked them all, for the most part.

but yea, I was also thinking about checking out Diamond no Ace.

I don't care about boxing, either. Hajime no Ippo is still amazing. The boxing fights are not super unrealistic, but very "anime" with named techniques and fighting spirit and such.

It's arguably a sport but it works the same way as an anime, Initial D is also really amazing. You know an anime is good when you try to scandy flick your '88 manual Toyota Tercel a whole bunch and end up crashing into a guardrail and have to tell everybody it was because of a deer instead of trying to do anime shit.

But it does have to do with catching my interest when there's a thousand options available.

Hadn't really considered racing, but I've heard good things about Initial D...a lot, in fact. I'll put that on my list.

Up to binging on Diamond no Ace's second season now. Man, the stuff where MC had the yips for 30 episodes was a little hard to get through, but things might be on the upturn. His personality's still grating, though.

Shouldn't be too long 'fore I find another good pick (probably One Outs).

If it weren't such a long series, I'd watch Ace of Diamond too. But I just can't binge long series like that. As it stands right now, Princess Nine is still my all-time favorite sports anime, and it'll always hold a special place in my heart. The on-field action was great, and the drama of the story itself was really good too. Despite the cast mostly being cute girls, it's far from just a "cute girls playing cute baseball" anime and it gets really serious at times.

Depending on how much you're winning to stretch the definition of "sport", I'll also mention Air Gear, Girls Und Panzer, and Tiger Mask W. None of them focus on activities that are traditionally seen as a sport, but they all have the same feel of a sports anime in terms of story and character development.

I actually watched Girls und Panzer this year after hearing about it constantly. Gotta admit, it was pretty great. I'd consider watching another show about an "alternative" sport like that, if it piqued my interest.

The other two are pretty good too.

Air Gear is an interest twist on extreme sports like rollerblading, and it has some cool action sequences and (if you're into 'that sort of thing) some good fanservice on the side. The female characters in the show kick a lot of ass though, and definitely aren't just around for fanservice.

Tiger Mask W is a kind-of-sort-of sequel to the classic Tiger Mask anime, but it revolves around a new generation of the Tiger Mask character and watching the original series isn't necessary to enjoy this one. In addition to a fun cast of original characters, it also features many members of the real-life New Japan Pro Wrestling roster in supporting roles because they helped fund this new anime. It has awesome action and a cool story, especially in regards to how the paths of the good guy Tiger Mask and the "anti-hero" Tiger The Dark intertwine throughout.

Welp, finished all the eps. The third season ("Act II") is shaping up to be quite good. If anyone was on the fence for watching the show, consider whetting your appetite -- the quality is pretty good all the way through. The pacing improves in the second season, too, which helps.

Guess I'll start One Outs soon.

Is there a good clip that highlights the strengths of this series? Or maybe just something funny could do.

I'd suggest watching the one-off OVAs, but they take place during or between the seasons, so they wouldn't be as meaningful if you were unfamiliar with the characters. Maybe just watch the first few episodes and you can see the glimmers of greatness in Sawamura, haha. Like I said, it's pretty enjoyable, even from the get-go.

Also started One Outs today. It's been good, too, just in a different way. MC seems like an unbeatable mind reader who makes things interesting, even when the odds are against him. That's in stark contrast to Sawamura, who you grow to enjoy as you see him glimpse success through hard work and failure.
