Toby is a great Peter, awful Spidey.

Andrew is an awful Peter, great Spidey.

Tom is pretty great as both, but doesn't reach either high, though still obviously ends up being better overall.

Spider Man 2 was shit. I dont understand how people like that film. Other than molina as ock who did well, it was so fucking cheesy even for sam rami standards. Spider man crowd surfing, screaming old women to show how dangerous a scene is, mary jane with this embarassing smirk while running slow mo in a wedding dress. The movie just isnt good and i doubt people have watched it recently.

For some reason people know 1 and 3 were meh and bad, but praise 2 blindly...

Anyway spiderverse is the right choice.

I liked Spider-Man 2 the best, I think. Though, FFH has my favorite villain.

I think I liked Toby's peter the best and Andrew's Spidey the best. Haven't cared a huge amount for Holland thus far.

Someone help me get Spiderverse. Watched on Netflix and was not impressed.

My write-up from my movie topic:

Well, here you have it: Into the Spider-verse is pretty easily the best superhero/comic book adaptation I have ever seen. This is also the first movie that I really think recreates that comic book tone to a tee. It's smart, self-aware, and funny without taking away from any of the action or drama.

Into the Spider-verse brilliantly weaves this self-awareness into the overall theme--and even the animation--of the movie. They know why kids like superheroes and comics. They like to imagine themselves as the heroes, no matter who they are or what environment they're in. So by having an infinite amount of Spidermen in infinite universes, there's a hero for everyone (and for every art style!). I've never seen anything like this before, and it's incredibly refreshing in this age of superhero glut.

Yeah, Spider-Verse is really special in that it completely understands and embraces its comic origins from its tone and themes down to tiny animation details and even a layer of dithering over the whole film. I'd go so far as to call it the one true comic book movie of our time, while all the others are just "super hero movies."

First thought was Spiderman 2. It just felt like such a huge deal at the time, and Alfred Molina was so great.

I really loved it. SpiderVerse I suppose would be a close second, I might like it more, idk. Hard to compare something that came out when I was a kid to something that came out after Spiderman in media was more...saturated. Remember the context of SpiderVerse - within an 18-month span of it we've had Spiderman Homecoming, Far From Home, Infinity War, Endgame and the PS4 game. And Venom too if that counts. "Objectively" that shouldn't matter when judging the movie alone, I know, but it does to me. I love Spiderman so I'm not sick of him or anything but there's an element of maybe...diminishing returns. Like stuff I found impressive in 2004 isn't now because I've seen Spiderman do so much stuff.

MCU Spidey feels comparatively...flimsy and disposable (though certainly still good, and an upgrade on the Garfield movies), while the Raimi movies felt like true events. Everything about them seemed to matter more, so I was more invested. And also a kid.

Voted Spider-Verse, not sure if it's the best Spider-man story (I think FFH is my favorite in that sense), but the animation style is what really takes it to the top. It's one of the most eye-catching things I've ever watched, without having to rely on 3D gimmicky like others do. It makes even Pixar look like amateurs.

I'm not a comic book fan though, so it doesn't resonate with me in that sense. The story is pretty fun though, better than most pre-MCU Spidey films at least.

Personally it's very hard for me to pick a favourite.

The Raimi trilogy is solid, campy, emotional, and just all around fun.
Could it be nostalgia? I don't believe so. I remember watching these as a kid and thinking all the peter parker scenes were boring as hell. Revisiting them on occasion I found myself enjoying them more and more. Special mention to Danny Elfman who's score in my opinion set the bar for superhero music to this very day.
Yes, that includes the third one. Sam did what he could under immense studio pressure to shove Venom in there, but for what screentime he (and the surrounding subplot) had, it was done well. Of course more screentime would be appreciated, but I'm easily impressed (to a point). Christopher Young did a great job holding up the score in the place of Elfman while adding his own spin for themes like Sandman's one.

The Webb films were different, yes. Subjected to considerably worse studio pressure, it's hard not to ignore Sony's effect on future projects, especially in the second one. I've watched these the least, so my memory is a little fuzzy.
What can be praised about these are the special effects and the music. TASM2 has quite possibly the best CGI costume Spidey's ever had, with realistic cloth sim and true muscle deformation. From a technical standpoint it's top of the line. But with conflicting subplots and bad story pacing, especially in the second one, these movies suffer. Marc Webb did what he could, and what works in these films work great. I would've loved to see TASM3, but I probably wouldn't see it in theaters.

Now the MCU films I believe are the most different and jarring of the lot. How do you re-design a beloved character for the third time? How do you pull it off? I think these questions were answered with this incarnation of Spidey. Jon Watts and the Russo Brothers set Spidey apart from the rest by giving him Iron Man as his Uncle Ben. His friend Ned is an amalgamation of a couple of characters, one that Miles Morales interacts with. MJ is a person of color. Both of the movie villains' motivations are strictly because of something Iron Man has done.
Controversial changes? Hell yes. Some would say "who cares", including myself, but it took a few watches to come to terms with it. They seem jarring at first, reading articles and stuff, but stripping them away and watching these films they just fit so well within the context of the MCU. These movies really benefit from being a part of a wider franchise, and are satisfying in their own right. However, this is not the definitive Spider-Man, yet. With the nature of the MCU, this candle hasn't begun to burn out.

I have next to no complaints about Into The Spider-Verse. It's got everything you want Spidey to be, while adding it's own refreshing take on characters you know. Fun fact, this even includes Olivia Octavius. If you've played Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions you've fought a female Doc Ock before.
ITSV deserves every bit of praise it gets. Visually ground-breaking and page-turning.
The only complaint I have is Kingpin. I know it's not about him, the backstory makes sense and is understandable. But he wasn't really that threatening as a character to me.

I'm gonna have to go with Spider-Man 2, ITSV behind it by a hair's width, followed by Far From Home, also by a hair's width. They're everything I've wanted from a spidey movie, being different while
staying as close as they can to their comic counterparts.

Yeah, Spiderverse Kingpin definitely isn't as good as Netflix Daredevil Kingpin.

For Spider-Man 3, I liked the final battle quite a lot. Was nice and emotional and 2v2 fights aren't super common. Had some neat action.

I'd agree Kingpin is a slight letdown in Spiderverse...doesn't exactly steal any scenes. Not bad, just kinda middle of the road. Doc Ock is better but not in it much.

Though I can't think of many superhero movies where both hero and villain were exceptional presences (like how RDJ/Stark is great in Iron Man 3, but none of the Iron Man villains are classic or super memorable). I think Spiderman 2, funnily enough, is one of few examples. They did a good job of characterizing Peter Parker in that one and justifying his decision to hang up the suit, and Alfred Molina is too.
