It honestly depends on the service. Were they noticeably busy, but did their best to make the experience enjoyable? Was the restaurant a little short-staffed and apologetic about the wait? Or did they just ignore us/me and cop an attitude to questions?

If the former two, I usually tip 15% or more to help out, even if my experience was sub-par. If the latter, I don't tip and pay in cash so they can't make a scene out of it online.

Customer service is everything. If you at least try to help, that's all I can ask for. If you don't try, don't expect me to help out.

This, basically. It depends on why the service was bad...

I don't really eat in restaurants however tipping isn't a big thing over here. Probably because the staff are at least getting national minimum wage.

I don't tip. The rare times I do, it's cause the service was good and cause I had extra money. And even then it'd only be a dollar.

I left a single penny on at least 2 occasions, for exceptionally hateful service.
I usually tip around 10% for single trip service, like Sonic carhops.
Everyone else gets 15-18%, unless drink refills take 5 minuets plus.

I estimate the average stay is about an hour for a sit down meal. Count out the number of tables they are serving while you are there. Divide by a fair wage. I usually do 20 dollars per hour.

Certainly; usually in the 10-14% range. Though, like others here, I take other factors into consideration before slashing it.

But I'd go down to two cents if I felt the situation warranted it. Fortunately I haven't had such an experience.

I dont go to places where tipping is a thing. If McDonalds ever had you tip people, our local one would not get any tips for good service at all!

I mean, I don't tip to begin with, so no. If the service is bad, I probably just won't return to the restaurant.

I always never know whether to tip carhops at Sonic, tbh... Though, I usually dont have extra money. And usually pay with my phone these days...
