Nowadays its
1 -> 25 -> 50 -> 75 -> 100
1 -> 25 -> 50 -> 75 -> 100
1 -> 25 -> 50 -> 75 -> 100
1 -> 25 -> 50 -> 75 -> 100
1 -> 25 -> 50 -> 75 -> 100
1 -> 25 -> 50 -> 75 -> 100
1 -> 25 -> 50 -> 75 -> 100
1 -> 25 -> 50 -> 75 -> 100
1 -> 25 -> 50 -> 75 -> 100
1 -> 25 -> 50 -> 75 -> 100

The goddamned bar just loops infinitely never telling the actual percentage.

I miss those fullscreen Wizard screens. I want them back, instead of installing while minimized.

I miss setting up the DOS virtual memory and configuring the sound card. And, of course, setting up the 3dfx added another layer of complexity. I purely hate Windoze, no flexibility.

it's not necessarily easy to quantify the work that needs to be done. if it's a nice simple list of 1000 objects and you need to perform an action on each one, then you can have a nice smooth scroll bar that increments once for each object.

but, if you just need to do 4 really vague time consuming things, then yeah you get "1 -> 25 -> 50 -> 75 -> 100"

one that I know of like that is importing one MS Outlook .pst file into another. It probably could enumerate the folders and items before copying them so that it would know how many it needs to copy, but it doesn't, and just gives repeating 0-100% status bars over and over with no indication of the overall progress.
