Board 8 > Attack On Titan (anime) questions (Mid-Season 3 Spoilers)

So I came back to Attack On Titan recently, now that season 3 has ended. As I've been watching, I have been curious about this line of events and I wanted to make sure I have it right in my head.

- Titan powers can be passed to different people, if that other person (as a titan) eats the person with the powers, right?
- Reiss family had the power of the founding titan, which is this super big ability that lets them control humans and titans (titans ARE humans so this makes sense). But, for some reason due to the first king, anyone who inherits this ability does NOT use it to control and stop the titans. No one knows why.

This is where things get confusing a little.

- Grisha ate the Reiss daughter who had the founding power. Later, he injects Eren with the titan juice, and Eren eats Grisha. So Eren has the founding titan power, but can't use it because he isn't from the Reiss family?
- Eren also has the Titan Scream thing, is this the same as the founding titan power or something else he just has?

It's the same thing, I think. It's just not as effective when he uses it because he's not of royal blood or something like that.

I'm not an authority on any of this by any stretch, and I'm only up to where Toonami has aired the dub (so Episode 8 of Season 3 Part II) but from what I can tell...

I think technically what happens is if a member of the Reiss family inherits the Founding Titan ability they get like... possessed by the will of the First King and it's him who refuses to use the power to stop/control the Titans. The "don't know why" part is why he refuses to act.

The whole "First King stops you from doing anything useful with the Founding Titan's power" thing only seems to apply when it's held by a member of the Reiss family. So yeah, Eren has the Founding Titan's power but without the drawback of immediately being stopped from doing anything with it.

However, it seems like it gets really nerfed if it's outside the Reiss Family. I think the Titan scream thing is the Founding Titan/Coordinate power but Eren can only use it to grab nearby Titans. The Reiss Family apparently has near reality-warping powers with it and it includes regular humans too given that it's implied they used that power to alter memories of everyone inside the walls (and it's implied that if the power passed from Eren back to Rod or Historia that the Scouts would auto-lose because they'd have their memories altered and render the whole coup pointless and the old order would be restored.)

tl;dr: Eren has the Founding Titan power AFAIK but it's massively limited from what it would be in the hands of the Reiss Family. But on the other hand, anyone in the Reiss Family who has it is automatically made to do nothing with it, so on the whole it's a plus for humanity for Eren to have it because his version is better than nothing.
