What game did you have that took you that long to play?

Me:nothing, I usually play my new game as soon as I can.
But it's maybe because I don't have the free games ever month deal.

I've had my Steam account for nine years and I have 236 games in my library. I've probably played 30% of them, total.

I've had games in my GOG account and PSN account that I haven't played in years. Even more in my GameBoy cartridge bag.

I have dozens of games I haven't played that I've owned for years. Most of the time when I get a new game, I'll play it for an hour or so just to check it out. If it really grabs me, I'll keep playing. If not... back on the shelf.

I do have one particular game that comes to mind:
Styx: Shards of Darkness.

Bought a physical copy on release day (14MAR2017). It's still in plastic. Haven't touched it. Bought it because I really enjoyed the first Styx game, but haven't played it because it's a particularly demanding brand of stealth that I have to be in a certain mood to want to play.

I've bought a few games for PS3 that I was never able to get around to. My brother lent his PS3 to a friend and it was having overheating issues when it came back so I was never able to play them.

I recently got a PS3 off Ebay and the disc drive doesn't work. I pretty much play digital only anyways at this point so it doesn't really matter but I still can't play them.

Also on the PC side of things, bundle sites really upped the number on games I'll never play.

I've got at least one or two games I've had for like 5 years plus I've never gotten around to playing, and probably half a dozen or so that are about a year old at this point. And that's just games I've bought physical copies for - I've probably got a ton of Games for Gold titles that are 5+ years old or more that have been sitting on my 360 ever since that I've never even looked at once.

And I don't even use Steam - I can easily see people with Steam buying games during sales and never getting around to play them for years.

Had a similar experience with X-2. Bought it within a month of release then saw the critics slamming it and I read some of the plot so the game literally sat on the wall unit shelf in the shrink wrap for over a year. The game was released in November 03 and I didn't open it until possibly early 05. Over a full year later.

I have a huge backlog. Some games take longer than others to get to. Also, life and school/work and everything else gets in the way. Especially when your money vs time flip and you start amassing games you don't have time to play.

The one game that I have that I can specifically identify how long it was on my backlog was probably Breath of Fire 3. I bought it in 2000 or 2001, and got around to playing it in 2013 or 2014. Somewhere in the 12-14 year timeframe. And I wouldn't be surprised if I eventually have backlogged games for longer than that.

The problem for me isn't so much that I have games on my backlog for long periods of time, its the annoyance I get when a game on my backlog gets remastered/remade and I still haven't played the original yet.

Wasnt upset to be honest. But continue thinking that. The whole "he did you a favor" bit implies I shouldnt have enjoyed it. Thing is i did. Probably more so had I not had any spoilers going in.

The part spoiled for me though was ignis going blind not the ending but still a pretty major spoiler so i was rightfully pissed at my friend.

He did try spoiling the end too so I was pissed about that too but he turned out to be wrong. Think he was drunk when he finished as apparently he didnt pay enough attention.

My bad. To be clear though my "shut up" was meant to be dismissive rather than pissy. Things dont convey well over text. Anyways bad habit on my part as i couldnt stand haters hanging around the XV boards years after the games release. Once again thats my bad as this is not that board.

A decade? Try three. ^.~

I bought Curse of the Azure Bonds when it came out -- looks like that was 1989 --
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/c64/567520-curse-of-the-azure-bonds
but I never managed to finish its predecessor, Pool of Radiance
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/c64/578753-pool-of-radiance
so it's still waiting. ^.~

The same adventurers can be brought over from one game to the next in this series; so having brought them over to the second game before finishing the first would have meant that they would be seriously underlevelled there, and, considering how tough the series is to begin with....

I have several board games I've never played. Some, like Betrayal at House on the Hill, require more players than I usually have who are interested. Others, like Axis & Allies, are very time consuming (I set up the board once and that took almost an hour!) And still other games, like Koi Koi or Shogi, require learning a complicated new set of cards/pieces.
