I always fantasize about travelling back to the past, getting far away from any contact with my family and whatnot, adopting a fake identity, then starting a new life, like Jake Epping.

Present. Going back to the past could just butterfly effect my life to shit. Going to the future would mean I miss out on getting to enjoy what's left of nature before everything I love is extinct.

That depends. If I choose the past am I going back as I am now? Would I be a 42 year old man having to deal with all of the issues that arrive from having no provable past, no legal identity, etc.? Or am does my consciousness get placed into my 22 year old body and I can take over his life to change it how I see fit?

If it's the former, I'll just stay here. I sure as f*** don't want to jump ahead and just lose 20 years. I'll get there on my own while also having the experiences along the way. And I definitely don't want to be sent back into the past with no identity and no family.

Actually, I think I'll just say here regardless. I have finally found love, not just another woman that I can put up with. Something I had truly started to question if I was even capable of. This relationship came about due to a very specific set of circumstances that I'm not sure I could duplicate if I went back and made the changes to my past that I would like to make. It just wouldn't be worth it to risk losing this.

I'm old, so I couldn't really take advantage of going in the past and using my knowledge to get rich etc.

Therefore, future, I'll sell everything I own and invest it, so it is worth more in the future (hopefully), and by then there will be tons of new technology and video games etc to play.

If the world ends by then, oops, if not, I'm also 20 years closer to when medical knowledge will extend lifespans and ensure you can be healthy/enjoy life longer.

Present.

Going 20 years in the past, I'm presuming, means that things could unfold completely differently than they did the first time. The 20 years I *have* been given have been very good to me, financially and otherwise. No sense to roll the die to the chance of a much worse outcome. Though a touch of that early Amazon and Apple stock, and bitcoin later on, is tempting.

Going 20 years in the future, there's no guarantee that things will be better, only that I just lost 20 of my healthiest remaining years.

Am I stuck in the past after? Regardless, it seems like the more profitable angle.... although I guess you'd have issues establishing your identity and shit. And you'd get stuck having to stop 9/11, which is probably going to be a hassle.

Sure you could. How does being old now make that impossible? Memorize some lotto numbers. Just one huge jackpot, the week before that huge jackpot was won, so you don't have to share. Boom. Rich and 20 years younger than you are now.

Past. There are some things I'd like to redo.

I don't have the brightest outlook on the future, I can imagine we'll all be in a sorry state in 20 years. I can wait and see it later thanks very much.

Might as well stay in the present. Although I'd love to go back and fix my mistakes, what's not to say I would make even worse ones? Even knowing what I know now doesn't mean I would be immune from monumental screw ups. I just wouldn't make the same mistakes I did in the past.

I can't imagine life without my kids. I could always have more but they wouldn't be "my kids" if you know what I mean.

I also don't really want to be 18, almost 19 again. Although I was in the best shape of my life, I don't want to be a walking hard on and horny nonstop.

... but you would still be in the past doing the things you did I assume. Unless time travel replaces the then you and in that case things get messy rather fast as you wouldn't exist.

I meant simply that by the time I got back to this time again, I would be too old to enjoy it, and that I had already enjoyed myself, played the best video games, watched all the movies etc, from the last 20 years. By the time I could take advantage of the tons of money I had, to do new things, I would be too old to enjoy it (70+).

Therefore, going to the future would allow me to enjoy all the things that happen in the next 20 years, AND be young enough to enjoy things for another 20 years in the future from then.

Would get WAY more new video games, technological advances etc that way.

Present doesn't do anything for me, past I would be bored to tears for 20 years, only the future would have any advantage at all. I'd also make money that way as well (investing before going into the future) just not as much.

Really? All you can imagine doing is the same video games and movies that you've already played/seen? There are so many amazing experiences that could be had with the sort of money that future knowledge could get you. We're legitimately talking about stupid levels of wealth with a single lotto jackpot that was then invested in a handful of companies. Just travel alone could easily eat up 10 years of time for me. Create the ultimate airsoft range. Learn to fly and then get something small, fast and fun to fly in. Own and drive a monster truck. Not in competitions, just for fun. Get a submarine and take it to really amazing places. Camping expeditions to some of the world's most amazing locations. I could keep going. I would be so busy with so many other ultimate distractions that I wouldn't even miss movies and video games.

Present.

Future is a total gamble, one i wouldn't want to take without being able to return. You'd run into issues in the past trying to prove your identity if you're staying in your own body.
