What kind of game is this?

It's an action RPG, hack n slash style game developed by Team Ninja who are known for the Dead or Alive series, Nioh, Hyrule/Fire Emblem Warriors, and Ninja Gaiden. You pick a team of four of your favorite Marvel characters available in the roster and go through the campaign. The story is centered around Thanos and his generals collecting the infinity stones. Other Marvel super villains are also after the stones such as the Brotherhood of Mutants, the Sinister Six, Ulton, HYDRA, and more.

There is a seperate mode called Infinity Trials which are challenges with unique rewards such as character costumes and playable characters not obtainable in the main story. Each challenge has its own specific set of rules and may apply character or level restrictions. Infinity Trials is a part of the post game content. Also included in post game content is the New Game+ mode which is a harder run but you are allowed to keep whatever you unlocked from before.

There will also be an Expansion Pass available for $20. It comes in three waves. Marvel Knights, Fantastic Four, and X-Men. Each pack will feature a set of playable characters from those respective comics. It is unknown if the content will add more story or challenges.

How does it play?

You have a team of four Marvel characters you can swap between. Each characters has four abilities that can be leveled up and gain passive bonuses. Each ability also has a type, a synergy trait for synergy attacks, an EP (energy point) cost, and additional properties that vary based on attack.

Synergies - Team combo attacks that differ based upon the characters using them. Different synergies have different effects.

Extreme Attacks - "finisher" like moves that generally either have wide AOE or have an increased damage threshold. All 4 characters using their respective Extremes results in an Ultimate Alliance Extreme finisher that has an ever higher damage threshold and/or AOE.

ISO-8 is the loot of this game that is dropped when defeating enemies. It augments your character and give their attacks different properties. For example, basic attacks will add an electrical attribute or your character will regenerate health faster. Each ISO-8 is different. Of course, there will be a stat screen and skill trees so that you can monitor your character's progress.

There are team bonuses. This means having a certain set of heroes will add advantages in combat. For example, a team of Spider-Man (Peter Parker), Venom, Spider-Man (Miles Morales), and Spider-Gwen will be called the Web Warriors and there may be bonuses like buffed attack or more defense.

You can play online and with local co-op.

He shows up when during the X-Mansion sequence and you fight him along with the Brotherhood of Mutants. He then offers a temporary alliance afterwards and that's when he joins the team. At least, that's it looked like in the X-Men trailer for the game.

Eh, I'm holding off on the reviewers say about the new loot style. It could be neat but I'd to hear what others say about it.

i never got super into the older ultimate alliance games because i only had the first one on the wii and apparently that wasn't one of the better versions of the game

X-Men mission happens around Level 20 so it's possible.

Hopefully, more characters are unlockable and just not shown yet. We'll know soon since the game is out in the wild. Some people on other sites are picking up the game tomorrow via Mom and Pop stores.

What's wrong with this loot system? Each character can equip up to 4 pieces of gear. That more gear equips than we've seen since xmen legends 2. Mua 2 didn't have gear equips, period. Just badges that were team wide.

The end of the trailer on their E3 direct said the pack is Marvel Knights, X-men, and Fantastic Four, exact characters are unknown. It was recently said that this pack is a single pack for $20 and you can't get them separately.

not sure if it's been said about perks so i hope i'm not repeating something. one thing about perks is that you don't need all 4 of a team to get the perk. so if you had luke cage and iron fist you might get part of a perk, but if you added daredevil the perk would be stronger. i only briefly played MAU1 and XML1 years ago so i'm not sure if that was an all or nothing system

i'm pretty excited since it looks to be a super fun game to play with friends. wish there was more marketing push and wish they had better players for the treehouse since it looked like they were standing in the attack zones soaking up a lot of hits

It would be neat if there was a Nintendo guest character. The full roster still has yet to be revealed so we'll see. Somebody on ResetERA is currently playing through the game so we'll know soon enough.

The first review we've seen of the game gave it an 8.8. That's pretty good. It should have replayability with NG+ and the Infinity Trials.

I played the game at Best Buy and it was enjoyable.

Same guy from my previous post says the game isn't easy. A video that got taken down recently of a different man who got the game early also said the game wasn't easy or as mindless as it looked. Blocking and dodging is important. You cannot just button mash to win.

Looks like there two characters left in this roster that we dont know about totaling out to 36 characters. Itll probably come down to either Loki, Nick Fury, Ant Man, Vision, Cyclops, or Colossus. Fury has been a staple unlockable in the previous games. Ant Man and Vision are featured on the promotional material. Cyclops and Colossus have move sets in the game already. Loki has some kind of character bio or something g on the Japanese site. The only other villains who have that were Venom and Magneto who are playable.

We should know very soon.
