Board 8 > I run an RPG for Board 8ers based on DC Comics. Here is my story.

scarletspeed7 07/12/19 3:46:11 PM #1:	In another topic I posted, there were a few people that had interest in chronicling the adventures of my Board 8-based DCURPG. The DCURPG is DC Universe Role-Playing Game, an obsolete, defunct system that was rooted heavily in the source material of DC in its day. I decided to take a homebrew version of it with some definite rule changes and put together a campaign set in Gotham City, 1999. I had no idea if anyone would be interested, so I hoped for 4 people. I got 9, in the end, and so I currently am running 2 groups a week, both groups set in the same Gotham City. The plotline is fairly simple to explain - Gotham City, a victim of a massive 8.1 earthquake, has been cordoned off from the rest of the United States. Due to a host of factors involved, the government decided it was better to cut its losses, half-heartedly complete an evacuation process, and then block off the entire island-based city. The characters in the campaign work in two groups invested in attempting reunite a city that has fallen into a chaotic feudal system centered around a variety of leaders and small territorial systems. There's no power, no running water, shortages of food, a premium on bullets, and a host of challenges between these teams and the eventual goal of ending the No Man's Land edict. So I think I'll open with a basic overview of the characters involved: Group 1 This team is comprised of four teenagers and one odd-man-out adult who live in the Gotham Clocktower (under the watchful eye of Oracle, the wheelchair-bound former Batgirl-turned-information broker). This group began prior to the earthquake as a network of acquaintances to Gotham City veteran cop Mackenzie Bock. After the earthquake hit, they eventually caught the eye of Nightwing who called for their aid; the Bat-Family was extremely short-staffed, and Nightwing needed bodyguards to protect him on a diplomatic mission in Washington D.C. Things went safe, and the team was stranded outside of Gotham when the No Man's Land measure passed. Months later, they were airdropped back into Gotham. In terms of players, there's Talirah Isiset (played by Inviso). An Egyptian princess with serious daddy issues, Talirah was forcibly mummified alive by concerned leaders in Egypt when her father went mad with power. She awoke in Gotham with clouded memories, but a recent run-in with her father has brought her memories back and given her the power of fire. Then there's Obrov (played by Johnbobb). A gargantuan disfigured brute, Obrov has been burned by every person he's ever met, all of them dismissing him and his ugly appearance. This included a brief period of time where he worked alongside Scarecrow. That went south when the Scarecrow used and abused and dumped Obrov as a failed experiment. Now Obrov seeks some vengeance against the infamous Jonathan Crane. The third character is Rosetta Stone (played by War). Rosetta crashed on Earth during a mission of exploration from Saturn. Picked up by Amanda Waller, she was tortured and imprisoned before a mysterious release from jail. Now, Rosetta hides in Gotham, weighing her options as she learns just how valuable she is to the world of espionage in the DCU. Character #4, Fastbreak (played by Scare). Fastbreak was a star athlete before the weight of bills fell on his high school shoulders. In order to keep his lifestyle intact, he threw a playoff game, and his basketball dreams were dashed. After tracking down the men who set up his fall, a freak electrical accident bestowed electrical powers on him. And the final member of this party is Ghost (played by hombad). Ghost has been a metahuman from a young age; orphaned and forced to care for his brother, Ghost has used his invisibility to survive in Gotham for years. scarletspeed7 07/12/19 3:46:16 PM #2:	Group 2 On the other side of Gotham, we have Penguin's hired help, a motley team of four heroes who have come together from extremely disparate sides of the DC Universe. Originally united on a job for the Department of Extranomal Operations (DEO), these four men found themselves in the Batcave at the moment of the earthquake that hit Gotham. Also eventually called upon by Nightwing, they chose to monitor the bridges being used for evacuation. An act of terrorism caused public panic and left them stranded, looking across the harbor at a Gotham they could never return to... until a few months later when the Penguin arranged for a submarine ride that brought them right to his doorstep. The impetus for this relationship with the Penguin stems from Sforz's (played by Han) long-standing employment history with Oswald Cobblepot as a bar piano player. Sforz has been given more and more responsibility from the Penguin, and that has been of conflict between Sforz and his longtime best friend, Oracle. One task assigned by the Penguin inadvertantly led Sforz to a facility where, long story short, a Clayface was baked into his body, bestowing him with earth powers. Alongside Sforz comes Riev Bauker (played by Wickle). Riev is a stoic, silent hitman who has sworn vengeance against his former boss, the Black Mask. A job gone awry left his life in tatters thanks to the high-level criminal overlord has led Riev to vow retirbution against Mask. On the way to such retribution, a misfire with a super-villain's light gun gave Riev some unique light-based abilities. And, also, everyone in Gotham knows Riev. Everyone. Character numero tres is Mantis Toboggan, a robotics expert under the employ of Lex Luthor. This character is simple but effective; Mantis looks at everything as an opportunity for knowledge or for benefit to his boss, Lexie. His work in robotics has begun to yield some interesting results (including a functional diminutive partner in crime that can use a slingshot and spout knowledge about migratory patterns). Mantis can be a real wild card on the team at times, but nothing is quite as wild as the final party member, Artemis (played by Ermine). Artemis is a Pomeranian, the victim of experimentation by Kirk Langstrom, the Man-Bat. Langstrom's manipulations eventually led to Artemis developing the ability to speak, and also to get extremely huge. Artemis is the youngest character in the campaign, clocking in at about 15 months old. And he loves pretty much everything. Coffee, eggs, fighting, hanging out with bloodthirsty mercenaries. Anyways, that's a bit of insight about my campaign. I figured I would maybe start a bit of a campaign diary since a few people were curious about how everything has been going. There's LOTS of content already, and more every day. We use a Discord server for this campaign which is always pretty active. Something cool happens every single day, even when there aren't sessions. It doesn't have to be the League either, it was just the first thing I thought of.
