Can't remember the last time I played a Tales game all the way through, but I'm giving this one a shot just the same. One of the (obviously) evil dudes in the opening has a huge floppy sombrero, so that's a good sign of quality.

Only in the first couple areas, but it's been good so far. I'll probably switch to the JP voice acting when I get a chance, though. Now I'm wondering how this idyllic hometown will get wrecked. Indiscriminate burning is always a favorite, but this daemonblight stuff sounds like a good second choice. Maybe even do some Liliana Vess action and have the medicine turn the sick bro into a monster. I thought that silver-haired dude would've been evil from the opening scenes, but maybe not... ... ...

Competely forgot that Vesperia got a remaster lately. It went on pretty long, too, but it was generally enjoyable, so I might have to pick that up sometime. Nothing will ever top my all-time fave Tales game, though (Phantasia).

Game's great. I'd stick with the English VA as it's pretty damn good. Magilou in particular is great and Ian Sinclair hams it the fuck up later as a side character.

Yeah, the voicing's been a bit better now. Maybe it was just a little annoying due to the prologue stuff.

I really liked the game, almost loved it, but as time went on to end/postgame, I started to see a LOT of design choices I did not like. Still a really fun game, but Im kinda reluctant on doing a 2nd playthough atm. Maybe before Tales of Arise comes out.

I will say this; I highly recommend you learn a 2nd or 3rd character, especially if you are using Velvet. Thats not a spoiler, but a some people appear to get bored of Velvet's gameplay after a short while. Just a heads up

I'll second learning other characters. I didn't get bored of Velvet, she's super fun, but she's also incredibly OP and easy to use and some of the other characters offer more of a challenge. Eizen is really fun.

Yeah, they ended up naming that no-name kid Laphi, so it was a little misleading. Of course, after playing so many JRPGs, it's normal to be skeptical whenever someone "dies" and their body isnt found. Maybe Laphi Mk. 1 will return at the end.

As for learning other characters besides Spamvet, I might pick a mage or something.

Okay, time for another night of hardcore Berseria action. Currently being asked to assassinate some drug-running priest.

I've really been enjoying all these costume changes, though, just to make cutscenes funnier. Velvet has some a cowboy hat, sunglasses and the bottom half of a cat suit; Laphi MK2 got the Angry Glasses, a top hat and waiter uniform; Eizen has headphones and an eyepatch; Rokurou has elf ears and a Yuri plushie on his head. Only now when I'm typing this do I realize that each item can be equipped on everyone, if you choose.

Another thing: I've always liked these expedition-type minigames where you get rewards by sending out ships, waiting 30 minutes, and getting free swag. Even the mental association with Ubisoft busy work can't break-a my stride.

EDIT: BTW, what's up with these katz chests that don't give anything? I'm not getting RNG-screwed or something, right?

Nah the Katz chests are functioning properly. They give you an item every three chests or so and it doesn't matter the order you open them in.

Yeah, Velvet in all her wonderful edginess is perfect. When I played through Berseria, I once gave Eizen a cowboy hat and glasses... and then was confused when I had seen him in somebody else's screenshot, because him having glasses/a cowboy hat had become just so ingrained to his identity for me, that I had to take a moment and be like "oh".

That whole Artorius fight was a no-sell, lmao. Expected, of course, but my crew didn't even do 100 damage overall -- a little pitiful. Looks like Eleanor took Laphi MK2 somewhere in these ruins, so it's time to reclaim our li'l waiter.

I haven't minded the loot stuff so far, besides the slow-ass rate at which skills are mastered. I swear, some of these things have a 380-point bar to fill, which is fairly ridiculous. Not even FF9 was that stingy. Hopefully they'll introduce enemies (or whatever) that give more value on death.

As for leveling equipment, Dire Foes are your best bet as equipment leveling is based on grade earned.

Once you get the hang of spawning and fighting Dire Foes it's pretty easy to level gear fast.

I dunno if it was a dire enemy, but some horrific-looking bat thing showed up in the lizardman caves when I was grinding. I haven't died on anything so far, but if I stayed in that fight, I definitely would've. Been kinda avoiding all those enemies, but now that I'm approaching LV20, some of the older ones are probably doable.

If you could see them on the world map and it had an aura it was a Code Red enemy, those are good for money via turning them in to the NPC in towns.

Dire Foes spawn after a battle, instead of going to the results screen you'll get a new enemy spawn. The game will teach you about them eventually.

I'll keep a lookout. Haven't really needed much money for anything so far, honestly. I'm sure the better equipment upgrades (+1, +2, etc.) will eat into those funds, though.

Anyway, just beat that bug boss in the forest to find some flower for a scurvy cure. Honestly, this whole adventure segment seems completely random and wasn't very enjoyable...and not just because of those paralytic skunks. At this rate, I wouldn't doubt if something happens to the ship and I have to walk to Lohengrin (or whatever that blocked-off town is) for some reason.

Almost died to that bug boss, though. It was going pretty well, until halfway through, it suddenly nuked the field with a multihit lightning spell. Couldn't even swap out the dead folks. Eizen and GOATicet managed to hold it off for the last 30% of its HP, though, so that was nice.

About to go to Palimedes. Found a dire foe (beach bee) that almost beat the crap out of me, so I was happy to flee that time, haha. Thankfully, I'm starting to see some equipment learning rate++ items, so that'll hopefully take the heat off this backlog of skills everyone has.
