Just finished. I think I preferred season 1 but it is like, really close. Robin is an amazing new character and was easily my favorite part.

No one thinks Hopper is really dead, right?

They never showed his death and the Duffers aren't exactly known for subtly or nuance. He definitely went through the gate.

That was a lot of fun. It was so deliciously 80s. The first 2 episodes were a bit flat but it was rocking around episode 3 or 4. It definitely evolved past a "stream this on a mobile device" type of show, had to get it onto the home theater for sure.

second half of S3 >> S1 > S2 = first half of S3

I'd rate Season 1 as a B, for reference.

Just finished it

Thought that given the fairly large cast they did a decent but not great job of serving everybody and brought all the plots together well at the end.

I was fairly sure Hopper wasn't dead, since when the thing explodes I don't even think you see Hopper in the shot. But I did think it was kinda dumb that Hopper couldn't make the run back to the key room. It'd take like 10 seconds and he spent 5 staring at Joyce. A little too contrived maybe. But perhaps I'm underestimating the distance or something, I only saw it once.

Have to say though that even being fairly sure Hopper isn't dead, I still found the last 15m pretty sad. I like that they went for a bit more of a downer ending. I think Max was quite underserved in it, though, given that she also lost Billy and all we got was...her saying goodbye to Will and Eleven and her sitting and looking sad in her room. I like Max so that was annoying. In general the one thing I didn't really feel much of is that Billy was Max's brother. I know they weren't super close, but she didn't seem too concerned about him. Almost like they forgot about that, Barb-style, or didn't have time to include much of that stuff.

Season MVP is probably Team Robin - all 4 characters were great - but I think David Harbor did a really good job this season too, which made his "death" that much harder-hitting.

All-told it was a really good season, probably an upgrade on 2 but can't beat 1. I think S4 will be the last one and that's about right.

Pretty sure the lightning from the machine was arcing between him and the room so he couldn't get back.

We finished this up this morning. Pretty great, as usual. I'd rank the season above the second, but maybe just behind the first. It's hard to top that though and this came about as close as one could possibly hope to. Hopper is almost certainly alive, when he wasn't on screen for the explosion I assumed something was up and kept waiting for a hint of something. This show isn't the type that kills major characters off screen. The Russians were also mysteriously gone so it's pretty feasible he was abducted and he is 'the American', but they could have also had him go through the gate. For now though I'm assuming he is the American.

We live really close to the place where the majority of the season was shot for the record (Starcourt). Actually have been there before this season was even shot.

Great season. I intended on watching just a episode or two at a time cause I was so hooked on DQB2 but I ended up binging it in two sessions lol.
