Yeah the scene where Mysterio is explaining his entire backstory to a group of people who are obviously already aware of his backstory was a little clunky. Everything after the reveal was great though and wow those post credit stingers.

I can't wait until we get Green Goblin or Doc Ock and they were fucked by Stark as well.

No easier characters to make hate Stark than the guys who ran tech companies and scientific labs that could easily have been driven out of business or into more extreme avenues of business by the guy!

It's not magic so Strange probably won't get involved, and Thor and Captain Marvel aren't available as they covered in this movie. I guess Black Panther might take offense to it? Or he might just see it as silly non-Wakandan tech and think it doesn't matter.

I liked it, but thought it was a step down from Homecoming.

The middle fight with Mysterio; the 'Peter Tingle' part of the final fight; everything with Happy; the amazing mid-credit scene; the MCU depiction of the Netherlands and most of the gags were all spot-on, but the whole Europe trip felt unnecessary as a plot device; too much Peter Parker and not enough Spider-Man; the MJ romance came out of nowhere and whilst Mysterio was great, like Vulture, he didn't feel like a Spider-Man villain as much as an Iron Man villain that Spider-Man just got in the way of.

I feel like people who have no idea what Mysterio's deal is will enjoy the first half of the film more, as I spent all of it waiting for the penny to drop so the real plot could start. Also it's harder and harder to justify 'the Avengers were busy' the longer the MCU goes on and the more of them they have.

Just trying to make Flash a more sympathetic character to differentiate him from the jock bully type, I'm assuming. At the very least it was just a little explanation for why he picks on Peter since he has neglectful parents.

This version of Flash would make for a strange Agent Venom though.

But it was justified! I mean, I agree, it sounded stupid at first. Like, "What about Scarlet Witch? Black Panther? Falcon? Wasp?" And then the after credits... omg, I need to see Captain Marvel, but that was some perfect lampshading.

Well, if Spider-Man is now a menace, Flash Thompson is going to probably be Spidey's biggest defender and will be a catalyst for putting the webslinger back in a good light. With the constant Flash mob stuff... I can see him going up against J. Jonah Jameson actually for a fight over what's the truth. The Flash Mob vs. The Daily Bugle! Think of the headlines!

I loved this movie. I thought the first half was a lot of fun, and the Mysterio's mid-movie villain speech was so perfectly done. The plan was pitch perfect over the top comic book villain, but with more than enough reason and understanding for the why and how to completely buy it. Mysterio is an evil movie director. Mysterio is Ed Harris from The Truman Show with vastly better technology. I liked that none of the 'laid off Stark ties' were spelled out to anyone outside his circle, and the quick flashbacks were excellent. "He named it BARF?!" Like, of course he'd become a villain.

I thought MJ was excellent, loved the Ned/Betty story, Happy Hogan was at his best since... Spider-Man 3? I really enjoyed the comedy, and Martin Starr/JB Smoove were there just enough to not be too much.

Samuel L Jackson was at his most Samuel L Jacksonest in this movie

OMG... Just realized. He's at his most Sam L Jacksonest because he's not Sam L Jackson. I was wondering why he seemed slightly less Nick Fury than before, and yeah, the Blip could potentially do that with five years missing and lack of Avengers, but my god, that it was someone doing his best to do his best Sam Jackson... and then the guy fooling people into thinking he's a hero only fools Sam Jackson because Sam Jackson isn't Sam Jackson, and if Sam Jackson were there, Mysterio would've been caught dead to rights early on!

Speaking of the real Sam Jackson Nick Fury, anyone else get Agents of SHIELD nostalgia when he popped up? First it looked like he was enjoying a relaxing time in Tahiti, and then the cell he was in reminded me of the rooms on the Quinjet, and then the space reveal felt like the Season 4 ending and... ahhh, I wish we could see Quake in the MCU proper.

OH! And how hilarious were both the "in memoriam" at the beginning, and the footage of the Blip? The marching band just reappearing in the middle of the basketball game after a sudden jumpcut was excellent.

Movie was a lot of fun, Mysterio fights were really cool, really liked Peter, really liked MJ, really liked the class stuff, holy **** the JJJ stinger.... amazing movie. I'm wondering right now if it's my favorite Spider-Man movie.

Im speaking largely as someone who read a ton of source material after becoming an MCU nerd.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spider-Man:_One_More_Day

My buddy warned me I would detest Peter Parker after reading this and he wasnt wrong.

Tom Holland does the character perfectly. If that was all Spiderman ever was I would like the character more, but there is SO much trash out there with this character its unreal.

My favorite Spider-Man is Newspaper Spider-Man (was, now. the comic finally ended recently), and one reason is that they were forced to go along with the moronic 'We can't have Peter Parker be MARRIED, nobody can connect to someone like that' idea.

But when fans wrote in to complain, whoever was in charge of the comic (possibly still Stan Lee at the time) went 'okay, Peter and MJ are married again, and it's because of all of you writing in to tell us you wanted it'.

I saw it, was good, think I liked Homecoming better though.

I agree with the "Spiderman didn't seem Spiderman-y enough" feeling. Peter's suppose to be a cocky smartass as Spiderman and he just kinda... wasn't this movie?

Mysterio was excellent though. If he's actually dead I'll be really surprised because it doesn't really make sense that he is.

Ned and MJ are quite great too.

I really hope we get out of the 'highschool Spiderman' era soon though. I don't particularly mind it, but its definitely less interesting than his later life incarnations.

EDIT: Also Re: "Do you want him to quip to the drones?"- yes actually. Spidey quips to himself almost as often as to his enemies out of habit. It's his way to diffuse his own tension and kind of 'keep character'.

He does drop it when things get really personal and serious, which stuff kind of was the entire movie, so I get it, but it ended up going overboard on it imo.

Mysterio on the big screen was everything I hoped he would be (except for the Tony Stark Circle Jerk that blanketed THE ENTIRE THING). I love Tony Stark and what he meant for the franchise, but even as a centerpiece of this film's narrative, it was too much.

That said, Peter's struggle to find himself, and Mysterio playing him for a fool YET having a genuine soft spot for him kept the flow of the movie churning along. Sam Jackson and Jon Favreau were great as usual.

AND OMFG JK JONAH JAMESON IS BACK!

Great movie but not quite as good as Homecoming, mostly just because that movie was a lot to live up to. I don't have many major complaints except that yeah, knowing that Mysterio was going to obviously be the bad guy made parts of the first half feel like it was waiting for the real shit to go down. This movie does feel like it's weighed down by Tony Stark and the Iron Man films a bit but I'm sort of ok with that - the connectivity of this franchise is its strength and he obviously leaves a big hole. I thought the film did a good job of having that hole be room for Peter to grow.

Saw it just now. Liked it better than Homecoming, but mainly because of awesome Mysterio is. Of course the problem of knowing he's a villain made the entire first half kind of underwhelming (and made the moment where Peter gives him the glasses just really bad. But that would have been a stupid decision in any respect.) But I actually like the Peter/MJ stuff, so it was enjoyable enough waiting for Mysterio to finally reveal his true intentions.

Mysterio is just such a cool villain fully realized. The illusion scene in Berlin is an MCU highlight and nicely captures why he has the capability to be such a threat. I love the stuff that makes the characters and the audience question what's real or not, and I really hope he's not actually dead (it is the MCU, which loves just killing of villains and wasting more potential for them). I wouldn't have minded at all if they showed that his death was just another illusion, even if they eventually never did anything with it, just to hammer home how unreliable everything you see around Mysterio can be. Although I admit having illusions and Skrulls in play all the time might not be the best thing for the canon at large. We don't want to be second-guessing everything in every following movie I suppose.

The absolute best part of course was seeing J.K. Simmons return as JJJ. I was smiling so much when he showed up. Love to see where they're going to take this with the next movie.

I liked it

A bit like Iron Man 3 though in that when the villain character is "deliberately bad", it doesn't necessarily make the first half retrospectively better. Like I get what they were going for with Mandarin but his scenes pre-reveal were still too clich to enjoy even though it was deliberate, and I kiiiiiinda almost felt the same way with Mysterio, but maybe not as bad because unlike with Mandarin I knew it was coming.

All the Mysterio illusions and the final battle with the drones were visually outstanding and felt great. Holland is good, Gyllenhaal was really good (especially after the reveal), and I like MJ too.

I feel like I didn't enjoy this movie enough relative to how good it is. I walked out thinking it was better than Homecoming but I somehow wasn't nearly as excited or fulfilled as I was after Homecoming.

I was afraid that the MCU magic would wear off a little for me after the pinnacle that was Endgame and while FFH is just one movie I'm even more worried now that that's indeed the case. Hopefully the hype will start coming back when some of my favorite yet-to-be-introduced Marvel characters start showing up.
