After the well-researched mess that was Brotherhood, it's time to finish the trilogy. Already liking this one way more with the Ottoman flavor (minarets!), the hookblade, and some NPCs that aren't stuffy as hell. Just finished the second memory sequence and Desmond's still in a coma (or whatever), so...we'll see how speedy his recovery is.

I wish I'd known how good those poison darts were in the last game -- seeing captains flailing around like hallucinating morons, then croaking, is a sight to behold.

I like how much of the city is open by default, so you can go climb towers at leisure. Introducing your own assassin pokemon training again, and this early, is also good news. We'll have to see how that tower defense stuff goes, because I've never really liked that genre.

Man, having your base overrun by templar assclowns is not even remotely enjoyable. If it's not a bunch of musketeers in little 2F blinds, it's deploying fifty thousand spearmen to break up combos. I guess these are situations where you're supposed to toss all your bombs and poison, but it's just such a slog, especially since their intruder radar is GTA-tier.

I was fully ready to hate this game because of tower defense but when I finally played it I discovered you only have to do it once when they introduce the mechanic (which admittedly is one time too many)

To permanently avoid it, I think you just bring down your wanted level by taking down posters and killing snitches. Never saw it again.

Yeah, while it's more of the same, revelations was actually not a bad way to end both Altair and Ezio's story satisfactorily.

I came to appreciate this game more knowing what's to come with... *retches* A.C. 3

All in all, I liked it. Setting is nice too.

Theres only 2 bad things i can say about rev.

Its sadly a bit short (but it was originally intended as a 3ds game) and the Tower Defense minigame...

it doesnt play very well IMO...

I know you can skip the tower defense stuff, but since the game gives you notoriety (or whatever the in-game term is) every time you buy shops, the constant snitch murdering gets rather tiresome. It doesn't help that they nerfed the notoriety reduction rates from Brotherhood either and ditched the poster (-25%) entirely. It's just not very enjoyable overall.

As for the story and characters so far, though, yeah those are definitely more enjoyable than some previous games (and AC3). The quest for a bunch of keys is a little random, but tolerable. Nothing has really come close to Black Flag's enjoyment for me, though. Of the ones I've played, I'd rank 'em so far:

1) AC4
2) AC2
3) AC Revelations (so far)
4) AC Brotherhood
5) AC3
6) AC1

To my knowledge THAT one was kinda for historical accuracy.

Revelations is my second least favorite only behind AC1. The entire notoriety system made the game such a chore to play.

2, Brotherhood and 4 were the goats.

I can see why people don't like the notoriety stuff, even if you can play around it. AC1 is okay when it comes to actually doing assassinations, but it's filled with so much other boring nonsense and rudimentary mechanics, it's wholly unfun to play. I remember writing a walkthrough for it years ago and having to find all those damn flags...never again.

I'm jumping 500 feet into a three-foot stack of hay. Historical accuracy should've taken one for the team on this issue. :p

Weighing the few seconds it takes to kill a snitch versus the half hour of annoyance for a tower defense game makes it obvious which is preferable.

Plus you can just sic your assassin troops on anyone and they'll do the work for you. A lot of people hate the assassin minions feature but I actually really like feeling like a master and having my own personal army to do my bidding. I just wish the game provided situations for us to really take advantage of the feature.

Well, why did you let it happen? Just tear down posters from time to time and the tutorial is the only time this will happen.

Ah, that's right, they did get rid of the posters. I forgot about that.

I played through the whole game and never faced an attack on one of my hideouts after the forced one early on >_>. Also the notoriety system was annoying but easy to cheese (if you just run 100 meters away from a Herald he will reset, so you don't have to hunt different ones down). I did hate that even buying properties added to your notoriety though.

The time investment part is the worst part of dropping notoriety. The assassin pokemon stuff is fine, though, even if I never bother using 'em. That said, is it worth doing all these faction challenges to get some type of "faction weapon"? If it's actually useful, I wouldn't mind siccing my boys and girls on fresh meat.

Yeah, without having every inch of the city covered in posters, you're looking or spread-out heralds or waiting for those other dudes to (re)spawn -- not enjoyable. If you can just run away from heralds to respawn 'em, though, that's acceptable cheesing. I tried running around the block to see if it would work, but I must not've gone far enough.

Unless you're going for 100% it's usually not worth it to finish any of the side content :\

Generally it's far enough away if their location on the map falls off the mini-map, if that makes sense. I took a few extra steps just to be on the safe side.

Yeah, I'm skipping a lot of the optional synchro stuff. Not all of it is completely terrible, but I can't be arsed to replay this stuff.

Haven't had much time to try the street crier trick, but I've seen you can't even access their powers when your infamy is sub-25%, so it seems a little wasteful at times. Also, bumping into those strategically placed beggarwomen gives infamy, too, lmao. Like those spectators aren't doing the same damn thing when my back's turned.

On another note, I have a feeling that Ezio's key quest is going to go completely awry at times. This opinion is mostly about how he tosses the priceless relics on a desk in his den -- a building which is raidable -- instead of securing them. I mean, Niccolo Polo went through pains to hide these cosmic washers thousands of feet below the surface, and Ezio ain't even attempting to put them behind a bookcase or something. Stupid.

lmao

So Altair saw that Abbas stole the Apple, almost succumbed to its power, and then let him REMAIN in the 'Hood afterwards? And then brought his wife with him into the lion's den, where she was expectedly murdered by his lackeys? Even Connor wasn't this much of a dumbass. I mean, I know they're trying to make another back story villain, but this is pretty ridiculous on several levels.

I've already played Black Flag. Honestly, after all the AC action lately, I'm eager to move onto some of the other games I bought recently, like that Shadow of Mordor sequel. Heard it's pretty good now that all the microtransaction crap is stripped out.

Anyway, just found the fourth Masyaf key and am just waiting for some resolution. The plot's been a bit staid so far, so I'm waiting for a twist, like Yusuf betraying me or Sofia being a templar. If I open that door and find it's just another hologram or something, I'mma be mad.

Rogue was better, strictly speaking, but for a series that continually expands, it was underwhelming.

4 kinda was too, tbh, but not to the extent that Rogue was.

The third act of this game seems so tepid, and the reveal about Zeus and the world ending (LOL) is kinda hokey. The final scenes with Ezio, Altair and the former speaking to Desmond were pretty great, though. I did get a good laugh at the "futuristic" society still having people wear blue jeans and everything looking like the Sydney Opera House, though.

I think I know what killed everyone.
Qll2vT5

Overall, a pretty decent game that excelled more at its setting and researched locations than the actual plot. Anytime I play as an assassin who isn't doing (important) assassinations, it's a bit disappointing. If I had a nickel for each rooftop musketeer I killed, though, I'd be the wealthiest man on the planet.
