The boss is surprisingly fast and strong, and you're getting your ass kicked. Your health bar is low, and the boss leaps in for the final blow.

Suddenly the action stops. The entire game freezes and doesn't react to any of your inputs.

Your character's voice plays:

"Yup, that's me. You're probably wondering how I ended up in this situation."

This would actually be a pretty cool start to a game if it just dropped you into this situation and then you got the intro sequence and backstory from there.

Well, yeah - that can come in the actual early levels. This is just a fun different way of starting the game, it doesn't matter if you can do well yet or not.

Well, yeah - that can come in the actual early levels. This is just a fun different way of starting the game, it doesn't matter if you can do well yet or not.


Dragon Age 2 kinda did start like this, it dropped you and your sibling off decked in endgame gear, one-hit-killing everything and taking no nonsense from the boss.

Then when you won, the game suddenly segues back to somebody telling the narrator that that's bull****, then you start the game proper in the wimpy gear you expect, and are told why you were fighting these orc rejects in the first place.

It's only about the prologue though, not the entire game's plot, so eh.
