had some tests done recently and found out my liver's enzyme levels (or whatever) are very slightly elevated. it's probably nothing to worry about (it can do that randomly and my liver isn't enlarged or anything) but i've decided i need to make a few changes to my lifestyle anyway, so i'm going to stop drinking soda among a few other things. i've just gotten really lazy about my diet in particular and it's gotta stop :/

went and bought a bunch of bottles of plain sparkling water to make the transition easier

Sorry to hear, stay strong! Its probably a good life choice anyway and youll be happier in the long run.

On the plus side you dont have to care about your grades anymore cause your parents have nothing to hold over you

I switched over to iced tea to cut down on my soda intake. Then I gradually reduced the amount of sugar I put in the tea.

I stopped drinking everything but water so I could save money while I was in college. Then I got so used to only drinking water and now that's all I want to drink.

After a week or two, you won't even want sugar anymore. I used to like cola and candy a lot, but now I just don't have the desire.

I used to drink a ton of soda, then I started drinking other stuff like Crystal Light, unsweetened iced tea, flavored sparkling water, or just plain water with lemon juice.

I still drink soda occasionally, like once a month or so.

I haven't bought any soda in 5 or 6 years but I still have a couple cases left.

Make sure to not replace it with any other type of sugar water. Plain soda water is a good alternative.

Yeah, apparently the flavoried perriers don't have sugar, so that would be a good choice too.

What about those Naked drink things. I think they have sugar. But maybe they are better for you. IDK...

Im not sure. Personally, I wouldnt. But I also have no reason to. If you want to get rid of sugar completely, you could just switch to water. Just go cold turkey. It will probably suck for a little. But it would probably work faster. How fast? Im not sure. But thats mainly because everyones different and will react differently.

My bros mate got diagnosed type one diabetes recently. That's probably more from the drugs than the sugar but eh he did like/likes a good drink. It's probably best to quit these things off your own back than being forced to do so due to illnesses.

I'm at a risk of diabetes since my Grandma on my moms side had diabetes and my dad has diabetes, plus a few aunts and uncles who have/had it. Have a doctors appointment tomorrow so i'm gonna ask him to check it while i'm there, last time I got it checked was like two years ago.

I might get checked, too. I had to reschedule my doctors appointment, though. When I do go, I might get some test done. Though, so far, Im always clean of like everything...

Thankfully i have no signs of any blood related illnesses. I have bloods done now and then when at the docs as some want to test if my blood has anything todo with the constant head pressure I get. It turns out my blood is fine except one time and they just gave me iron tablets that made my poop black. Fun times.

In my experience the best way to quit soda is to do the gallon a day water challenge. For the first two weeks you won't want to drink anything because the water will keep you occupied and then after that the cravings for the sugary drinks die down. By the end of the month you should be off of the stuff completely.

yeah, i've had routine bloodwork done before but nothing really came up until now. my fat, cholesterol, etc. are all fine. i don't think i have much family history but my grandfather died suddenly in his thirties and his diet was poor so it's always been something i feel like i should watch
