Board 8 > tool headlining download festival was the greatest concert of my life

it was sunday night and i was basically still in a refractory period yesterday but i still need to talk about it, it was the happiest moment of my life stretched out for an hour and forty minutes and i smiled so hard i cried

i saw them 3 times in 2006 and 2007 and there were plenty there who had never seen them and this was their first opportunity as they've not been in england since, but in those twelve years i've imagined the next time i would see them so many times that it became this dream that i'd ever seen them again.

the entire front of the crowd in the like hour before they came on was a hippie love fest at a metal festival, which ruled. it helped that slayer's final ever uk show was on the other stage at the time so that all the people who weren't there to see tool... weren't there. they filled in when slayer finished but god, was that crowd special to be in.

i can't gush about it enough it was a perfect confluence of circumstance i'm still on a high and struggling to think about work or anything else. shit, i just got home from watching metallica and still all i can think of is tool two nights ago. god it fucking ruled.

also the new songs sounded awesome. can't wait for august 30th.

(but first, july 2nd i see them again in lisbon! part of me right now thinks there's no way it can be as emotionally satisfying as this one but i had to get a ticket to their own show as well as download, as the last time i saw them at download it was just fine. i never expected their festival set to be that blowaway)

they didn't play this or lateralus (i've seen both before so can't cry too much) but i really wanted to see this because i was with my friend dave he listened to that song with me one time and it's now his favourite tool song and that rules because "like the time dave floated away" is 100% something this dave would do

I'm a very casual music guy, but Tool just sounds so different to me, and in a beautiful way. The bass in most of their songs is just penetrative. I'm so glad I've rediscovered them the past year or so; it feels like it's come full circle, since I first saw the music video for Sober when I was like eight years old and it left me mesmerized. I'd always try to catch it on MTV when everyone was asleep cuz my parents would never allow me to watch shit like that.

Anyway, glad the show moved you! Hope I can see them live someday.
