It's been a while.

One per person until I've rated them. Characters from whatever. If you don't think I know them, post a picture and I'll rate the design. If I don't know them and there's no picture, there will probably be no rating.

Any time Naito doesn't give a fuck, I give more of a fuck. Tranquilo is a state of mind, for sure. However, there are times where I don't think Naito is the true embodiment of Tranquilo. That honor may fall to my boy Orange Cassidy. Still, throwing a title belt around like an asshole is pretty fantastic.

Dilly-dally shilly-shally. This is what I best remember Tifa for. There is nothing the character can do, ass-kickery and resigned leadership be damned, to repair that point of view. Dilly-dally shilly-shally is going to be her lasting mark on me.

Dracula (Castlevania)

Rating: 70/100

A decent antagonist who really is coming to his own on the Castlevania animated series. Prior to that point, I likely would have Doctor Doomed him in the ratings. Now, however, I've grown to really appreciate the Warren Ellis depiction of the character. Great stuff.

I think the old bat is the definition of "fine". She has her memorable moments, and she's never a negative ingredient to the story. But much like Alfred Pennyworth, she doesn't particularly do anything of substantive value that really sticks with me. She's just a midcarder in a world of main eventers.

My favorite X-Man and a top tier Marvel character. No story from X-Men ever tugged at my heartstrings like the Ultimate X-Men origin of Gambit. When the character is done right, full of impermeable Cajun dialogue and gray morality, he's truly a sight to see.

As a villain, eh, fine, great. As Anakin Skywalker, fuck off, terrible. As Clone Wars animated Anakin, fairly compelling. Ultimately, I'm not as big of a Vader fan as many people. I think the meat of the franchise is in the non-Force characters. I really enjoy the grimy gunk of the Star Wars universe. Playing in the soulless and sanitized philosophies of the Jedi and Sith ultimately pales in comparison to digging your hands into the hamburger meat of the galaxy far, far away. Vader just feels hollow to me.

At the start of the series, the mystery of the character was pretty intriguing, but as time passed, I cared less about the lore of X-Files. I think I've just generally been soured on the series since it's original final couple seasons, and that probably permeates to a lot of the show.

A character that has quickly climbed my list of great video game characters. I've grown very attached to the cool confidence of Bayonetta, and her sleek, carlike design is art in action. Style is definitely a premium over substance here, but the story of Bayonetta 1 and 2 is surprisingly compelling despite the bonkers and ridiculous nature of everything happening in each game. Somehow, I just grew accustomed to her face, I guess.

REALLY tough to rate. I'm actually a bigger fan of the Karl Urban Bones that so excellently channels the original than the actual original. I'm more impressed with the impression than the source. I know that's a bizarre opinion to have, but it's true. When I go back to the original Bones, I find that his movie performances are what I really like. On the series, he's fairly uninteresting in comparison to moments like Star Trek III.

I think it's tough to only have about 20 episodes and really reach the upper echelon of TV, but Malcolm Tucker definitely makes a bold argument for contention in the tippy-top. The strange relationship between his perceived confidence and the actual tenuous nature of his role in the government has always fascinated me. I sometimes refer to him as the British Ari Gold, and I still stand by that statement, even though the characters are actually very different from one another.

I'll admit that I'm a mark for the Tetra wink in Wind Waker. Tetra was such a great breath of fresh air to Zelda, but LoZ has never been one to particularly rest to hard on the status quo. Zelda always changes up different aspects of the series in ways you really can only appreciate if you play each game. Tetra, for me, stands out so well because of what came before, and therefore, the originality here left an indelible impression on me.

When I was younger, this would have been a higher rating. I was quite enamored with River. But, over time, I've become disenchanted with a lot of the characters in Firefly. I'm not sure exactly why. In many ways, I feel like I've peered into the soul of Joss Whedon and realized that it's style over substance a lot of the time. A lot of the dip in love for River probably stems from the show and film not having opportunity to give River the time and development I think she deserved. Still, it's Summer Glau. You can't go wrong.

Strong opening outing, lackluster follow-up. I do like Snyder's idea that Mister Bloom is the anti-Joker. I would like to get a chance to sink my teeth into more Bloom material, but creative teams are what they are. Still, this is one of those ratings that I think demonstrates just how much potential a character has. Hopefully it will someday be realized.

I very, very rarely use the word "cringey". I think it's highly overused. The character of Sans, however, is definitely one that I would bandy the verboten word around. There's an entire segment of pop culture that dove down a very different pathway of storytelling than what I enjoy a long time ago. When I gave Undertale a whirl a couple years ago, I just found myself feeling very unmoved by it, and Sans especially was this character who seemed like a showcase character that just missed me completely.

I'm kind of merging several versions of the character into one here, but I have to point to Penny Dreadful's depiction of the character as an especially moving, heavy rendition of the character that really sums up all of the vices of humanity and science and throws them at the weak-willed but brilliant scientist character. It's a character that I would ruminate on after the show ended quite frequently. Something in the character in almost every medium and rendition is just so accessible to me. Whether it's a Hammer classic or the Shelley novel, I've really grown to be a fan. But Penny Dreadful really pushes the character into that elite status for me.

Pretty strong rating for a pretty weak movie. Hook is really the (god help me) hook of the movie. The only element of excitement or danger, and also the only voice of reason about the nonsense kidnapper boy-child. Hook has sadly often taken backseat to other Disney villains in pop culture, which really is a crime. The Disney Renaissance seems to have forced him into the backseat.
