that's my first double time clear but far from my first attempt. sadly, if I was top 3 I would make money this week

haven't done double-time yet, I still can't beat 2nd last boss fight in my Yves run

my playtime was like 3 hours up to him and now it's like half past 6

maybe sleeping will help me get back in the groove

I think the double tempo leaderboard is extremely soft though

Man this game has so much stuff and the map is so overwhelming. They have miniboss patterns as regular enemies. Necrodancer noobs must get crushed.

I hate when there's a spear moblin in one of those squared off sections in a dungeon so you think you're fine in regards to those enemies so you don't pay attention but then TOSS, OOF

Yeah the spear surprised me at first. Also the fact that all your attacks push enemies adds a ton of complexity to the patterns. The blue slime for example is like 5x harder.

Should I play Crypt before this or could I get a good feel for it without it?

FWIW I have plenty of rhythm game experience and am a musician so I have a pretty good feel for a beat anyway.

I think you would be fine without, but it definitely assumes you're familiar with Crypt.

Rhythm is not actually required since the beat is super lenient. It's essentially just a time limit for your turns, so thinking fast is the challenge.

You have to use Nayru's Love as soon as the seed is gonna strike you and it will reflect.

But they hide before the seed gets back to them.

if you wanna keep a beat combo you do

which is necessary for 1 chest at least but other than that uh well it he's you get more faster, and beating a screen with a beat combo gives you 2 diamonds

and yeah Nayru is fantastic for everyone else, but lack of a simple shield makes Cadence and Link much better for fighting Dekus

There's no way the best strategy involves losing a beat. I'm gonna try a few ideas though.

If you have a weapon other than the dagger you can trigger deku scrubs into attacking and then kill them with your weapon before they hide.

For dekus with nayru's love, you want to be standing 4 spaces away when you reflect the nut. Fighting them is super unintuitive and I don't like it, but 4 spaces away is the sweet spot. You can also just make them pop up, walk into them, and stab.

I still can't quite get the nayru reflection kill on dekus, but I found if you trigger then from 2 spots away then move around their side, you can kill them. With a spear it's trivial though.

alternatively just plant a bomb beside them then trigger their pop-up into the explosion

also bless kicking bombs, and bombing those slime chuchus so they don't make offspring

Beated first run

The game gives you way too many items in the 2nd half when you're already so OP that items don't matter. It might be that I went way too slow and methodical though. I had like 180 diamonds. Gonna try single character and go as fast as I can to see if the item balance makes more sense.

But yeah first impression is that this doesn't have nearly as much replayability as Necrodancer.

Just beat my 2nd run, took 2 hours but it felt like only 1 hour. I really thought I was faster. Not super sure how to make things much faster.

But the difficulty is perrrrrfectly balanced when you're trying to rush. From start to end this one felt really good. I had only a broadsword for almost the entire game, and nothing titanium until Ganon's dungeon. It's still fairly easy but speeding it up seems like a good challenge.

I've been playing permadeath and it is sooo hard but so fun. It's 100% the mastery loop that Necrodancer had where you feel totally hopeless at the beginning then slowly get farther and farther. Weapons and diamonds and everything is really balanced and makes a lot more sense than the first playthrough.

I just wish you could skip that initial tutorial screen.

Just played more BotW instead oops

Played a bit this weekend for the first time since finishing my first playthrough when it came out. Got a couple nice regular story mode runs, then beat Permadeath first try. Still having some difficulty adjusting, but it's pretty fun.

I am still getting rekt on permadeath. I've been able to get pretty deep into Lake Hylia reliably but I don't know a reliable way to get a weapon or more hearts so it's almost like playing Aria for the entire first part of the run.

My suggestion for weapon is either route directly to Gerudo Ruins and get the guaranteed Titanium Dagger at the north part of that area, or do Kakariko Crypt and take the weapon from there since it's the shortest/easiest dungeon

Yeah, titanium dagger is definitely huge. While I haven't put much time myself into the game, I've watched a lot of people streaming, so I know a lot of the tricks to make things easier. I don't own a Switch, I just borrowed from my brother. So I did my first playthrough blind, but have watched quite a bit of playthroughs since then.

Yeah I've been trying to figure out stuff on my own. I wish there was a boss practice mode like in Necrodancer because some of these patterns are wild. I only just figured out the Daira. But the boss rooms are still total chaos.
