Game Freak is under a tight schedule when it comes to development times. There was a 4 year cycle for DP and BW, then we started getting new generations every 3 years.

The shift to a 3 year cycle might have been forced upon them by either Nintendo or The Pokemon Company because the games sell so well that they want Game Freak to put out Pokemon games more frequently to cash in on Pokemon's huge sales for the games. This may have affected the quality of the games as Game Freak has less time to produce a very polished game.

Another issue that everything else works off the games. A new generation means new seasons of the anime, new merchandise, and new TCG sets. So this means that Game Freak is under pressure to pump out new generations of games on a frequent basis because Pokemon has additional revenue streams (TCG, merchandise, etc) beyond just the games itself.

Man Game Freak is such a bad company stuck in the early 2000's.

No National Dex is insane, but it'd be something I'd accept if they added it in later on. Knowing this trash company, though, they'd wait to repackage it into a full priced product.

This is worse that EA levels of bad and any other developer would get crucified for this but it's Nintendo related so it's cool.

Yes, the models used in the 3DS games were basically of such high quality that they are future-proofed for later games, so most of the modeling for this game was already done before they even started development. The only models they had to develop for this game are the new characters and Pokemon.

I missed the first half hour so went back and watched it lol.

But I have to say, that was one of Nintendo's best E3 showings ever. Thoughts:

+Good newcomers, especially Banjo.
+That Fire Emblem trailer looked fantastic.
+It is impressive how Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 looks better with every showing.
+Astral Chain looks like a game of the show contender.
+Luigi's Mansion 3 looks great.
+Animal Crossing looks great.
+Link's Awakening looks great and sooner than expected.
+BOTW2 is the biggest announcement of the show easily.
+No More Heroes 3 was teased, but I am very happy.
+Contra, Panzer Dragoon and Mana oh my. Loads of third party surprises.
+Great ports too like Witcher 3.
-Animal Crossing delay, though it did get a definite date.
-Where is Bayonetta 3 anyway?

Despite those two gripes, this was definitely an A.

They really weren't, to be fair. Any that had designs on them and weren't just solid colors looked rather bad.

There was a post on 4chan quite a while back where a guy accurate predicted Banjo, Joker, and a SE rep (he said Chrono or Neku but he wasn't sure).

The other two picks he had were Sylux from Metroid and Edelgard from FE Three Houses

No way is a Three Houses character part of the Fighter's Pass. Sakurai specifically said in the final Smash Direct that Rex came to be too late to be included in the Fighter's Pass, which means FETH characters were WAY too late.

For the people who like to cite a Sakurai tweet from November that says that the DLC had been finalized, it's not because that was the date they finalized it. He made that tweet because as soon as the base game roster was fully confirmed and people didn't get what they wanted they started flooding him with DLC requests. So yeah, I believe the Fighter's Pass characters were finalized roughly the same time as the base game roster or shortly after.

That being said I do think we'll get at least two more characters in addition to the Fighter's Pass - a FETH character (really they would be stupid not to) and another ballot vote, bringing the total DLC up to eight.

As long as I can bring my living pokedex over to whatever that Switch app is so that I can get rid of my 3DS and Pokemon Bank, I won't be too mad.
