Definitely onto something there.

It's a weird reverse racism, I see all types of shit in sports where they make up these first time stats for black people and it's weird how they can't just say stats for people. Like they're doing it only to make black people feel better about themselves without actually caring about what the person did.

And the month can be the same thing. "Hey let's give them a month so we don't have to worry about them the rest of the year", on the outside it looks neat and nice, but the reasoning is probably pretty awful.

The reasoning is to call attention to black history. You can't call attention to a thing year round, hence a specific date.
