Guns in Trails don't normally use gunpowder because its outdated tech. Guns use Orbal Energy to fire in this series, normally.

yeah Trails in the Sky is the GOAT jRPG cycle. Tales of Cold Steel is just a really good version of a modern jRPG.

after going through fire emblem fates for the 5th time I have to say I'm starting to really appreciate the parts that are good and numb to the parts that are awful. I also really really liked fire emblem new mystery of the emblem, another game I played this year. I've almost exclusively played fire emblem this year since I've been so passive on video games.

Also thanks for the recommendation to play the game that isn't currently buyable on modern consoles. I'll be sure to play it whenever it becomes available.

No but you don't get the others for awhile. You also don't usually get a choice of who you bring in CS1 (you only do in specific sections).

but you have to play the first one in order for it to make sense, so it's a huge commitment

it's worth it ultimately, I guess

as I get older, my anime tolerance goes down considerably.

The game is pretty good so far, but it could cut out the entire "girl accidently fell and her boobs are in my face" and save me a few gameplay hours and the game would be better for it.

Know its been a few days since this but I just saw it because I forgot this topic existed.

Yes actually that is one of the worst parts of the game. Trails as a whole tends to not follow anime tropes THAT much (there is some for sure, but its not very prevalent) but that one is front loaded and very dumb.

Luckily that situation in particular gets resolved fairly fast in the grand scheme of the game and isn't dragged out super far. It's just unfortunate that its up front like that.

I'm still playing and enjoying it btw, but I can only play non-portable games on the weekends since I'm an adult with stuff to do

I'm really enjoying the relaxing nature of the day to day npcs in this game. The combat is okish

Just arrived in the capital city, which I believe puts me around halfway through the game. I was really excited when I went into the basement with patrick and crow but super let down when I learned I couldn't use patrick in battle.

Is there a consequence to constantly weakening bosses on the retry? I assume I'll miss out on a trophy or something but the mechanic is nice since the battle system is hands down the worst part of this game

I thought the battle system was very good. Altho some aspects of it are way too abusive. (Looking at you S-Breaks as a free action,Delay and Moebius.)

Most of the cast is pretty strong at something too. (Poor Gaius.)

I think he's talking about Sky, since he's also playing that and bosses are more tricky in that game than in Cold Steel

but boss fights in Sky are where the combat is best and it's not that bad since at least in FC it's possible to beat the game on Nightmare difficult on a clean save don't do this

No, none.

I forget if on the higher difficulties the weakening thing is still an option opposed to a normal retry, but that's it. On any difficulty that allows it, there's no consequence.

Right now my theory for who "c" is is Chairman Irina, unless the game is good enough that she's an obvious red herring. The amount of money for operations, the fact that the group has all this reinhardt tech, and now she's suggesting class vii doesn't go on field outings (also stressing "updating" orb net)

Also it seems like aiming the railguns at crossbell with the emperor there will make her own creations come under greater scrutiny, which maybe was her big plan since she made them?

Alright just finished chapter 6

I was pretty excited to fight C but man was his/her battle anti-climatic. It's weird how some boss in this game are nigh impossible (nosferatu) and some take like two S-Breaks and a Chrono Drive to beat.

Welp looks like this game is going to be wrapping up soon. I'll probably try to finish it over the weekend. I need to beat the Trails in the Sky games before I hit the rest of the Cold Steels right?

You can technically understand CS2 just fine without playing the Sky games but it does spoil Sky pretty badly so it is recommended to play them first. It's up to you though.

You do need to play the Sky trilogy and the Crossbell duology before CS3, however. CS3 brings characters and plotlines back from them and continues their stories while expecting you to know them.

Not officially. They have (unedited but still readable) fan translations available on PC. If you have a Vita capable of homebrew you can play the Evolution versions on that (people ported the translations over).
