If youre like me and occasionally use butter but not often enough to use it all up before it spoils, one thing you can do is open up the package for each stick and use a knife to cut down about 3/4 of the way at each tbsp amount, or more frequently if you want smaller pads of butter
Then you re-wrap the sticks and put them in the freezer where they will keep for months without spoiling. When you need some, pieces will snap right off from where you made an indent and it will still melt easily in a hot pan or a microwave That is all. I have never had butter spoil. Salted butter contains enough salt to inhibit the growth of bacteria even if you leave it sitting out. Unsalted butter will go bad after a week or two if you leave it sitting out, but still contains enough salt that it should last a very, very long time in the fridge.
Now butter will absorb odors from the fridge, so keep it in the butter compartment if you have one, or else wrap it in foil or put it in a glass or plastic container. ... Copied to Clipboard!

I buy economy packs at my local discount club, where it's like three boxes with 4 sticks each, and then immediately freeze it.
Then when the time comes to use a stick, I just move it to the refrigerator instead. I never leave butter out just sitting in a butter dish on the counter or table. Over the span of my entire life, I've never had a single stick of butter go rancid. --- "Wall of Text'D!" --- oldskoolplayr76 "POwned again." --- blight family ... Copied to Clipboard!
