I'm contemplating about moving to NY since I've lived in Atlanta my entire life and its always been a dream of mine to live in the city for two years or so. I'm 27 almost 28 and I have nothing anchoring me here and it'd just be me and my doge moving up.

Assuming that I'd give up my car and take transit everywhere my only large bill other than rent would be my student loans which is $350 a month.

I dont drink but I still like to go out to mingle and try to meet people. I typically cook all of my meals at home minus the weekends but I love food so I'm sure once I get there I'd be more enticed to try out a lot of restaurants.

I wouldn't want roommates so is this reasonable? I make 70K now so I live very comfortable here but obviously NY is much more expensive that GA.

Its more than enough. You wouldn't be able to live in Manhattan though (which is a good thing).

Yeah man, stay in the lower CoL city. Having the freedom to do what you want when you want is invaluable.

A friend of mine lived in DC and he loved it so its on my shortlist of places to relocate. But why would you say DC?

Yeah I expected that and it doesnt bother me. I don't know which borough is the best for young people, I figure Brooklyn would be my best bet or maybe Queens?

I'd recommend taking an extended vacation or something instead, if that's an option for you. That way you can keep your job in a lower-COL area and save.

I just took a trip up to NYC ( I stayed closer to Harlem) and it was definitely a place I could see myself living in. I liked the pace and how theres an endless amount of things to do if you look hard enough.

DC is pretty unique and you don't need as much money. You can also live in the suburbs of MD/VA and easily commute in via the Metro if you want to save some money.

DC and metro areas like Arlington, Bethesda, and Alexandria are pretty damned expensive places to live. That whole region has one of the highest (if not the highest) median family incomes in the whole country.

I think you'd struggle to get a decent place on your own without a roommate.

Yes it's enough. Depends what area though. But yes

If you want to live in Queens that's like 10x more than enough

If Manhattan it's still more than enough but with less disposable income/savings

NYC is a very big place. I've worked on sites next to $5,000/mo apartments, while my wife's condo is worth about $225,000.

1300 is a bit high for a 1 bedroom then again we're all slaves to whatever the landlord wants to charge for rent.

around here it's base 1k before anything is considered, it used to be cheaper 5 years ago i was paying 750$ rent.
