It's funny. People who work for tips blame the tipper. How about blaming your company that you work for, for not paying you.Yes there are a handful of jobs you can get good tips at but most of them are a waste of time. You should get paid at least minimum wage and a tip should be extra, not your actual pay.

I hate the fact that tip jobs even exist. PAY YOUR EMPLOYEES!!!!

Yes we should live in a society where jobs pay enough that tips are not necessary but we don't. So you should vote for people who want to force companies to pay a living wage but that's not an excuse to not tip people in our current world. Some people have no other options but to work a job that relies on tips for any number of reasons that have nothing to do with their own education or competence level.

Education doesn't have to mean college. Garbage men make way more than a delivery driver. Learn a damn trade, those jobs are begging for new employees, dont even need high school diploma for half of them, learn basically everything on the job and they pay extremely well.

You do realize that if a delivery/server doesn't make at least minimum wage with their tips they are required by law to be payed the difference? Or the fact that the whole tipping culture exists because "eating out" is less of a thing in the US and Canada so if the restaurant food prices were raised to the level where tips weren't needed it would pretty much cause the whole industry to implode? Not to mention the fact that workers should indeed blame the tipper because if tips didn't exist they would be paying the same or more for their food anyways.

The issue is a lot more complicated then "I don't have to tip here, why should I tip there?" When it comes down to it tipping is less about "pay your workers decently" and more about "keeping the restaurant industry afloat".

I am not saying it is impossible, but when you have 60% of restaurants dying within the first year and 80% dying within the first 5, the industry is already pretty fragile. Adding another factor is only going to make it worse.

Probably. But having people who work for mostly tips suck, as well... Either way, it would be hard to change. But I guess if they did, it might cause a bunch of restaurant to go down, and even cause some chains to shut down a few buildings for a while. But once everything changed, maybe things would get back to normal... Maybe...

This would require treating restaurant employees like professionals. Those that want to work those jobs are professionals and yes, being a great restaurant employee takes talent, skill and intellect. It's quite unfortunate that despite the number of Americans constantly eating out increasing, those wanting to work in the industry are treated like uneducated dolts. This forces the good ones to find employment elsewhere, forcing the businesses to hire those that don't care, which lowers the level of customer service/satisfaction.

My point being, the entire mindset that restaurant employees are people that have made terrible life choices needs to stop. In fact, looking down on anyone for the job they do in society needs to stop.

Not to mention if everyone went after the top paying jobs the entire country would collapse. The only people taking the lower pay jobs would be kids and students and they would not fill all the fast food, sit-down restaurants, retail, etc... jobs. If everyone really went after being a lawyer, doctor, or "whatever job pays 45k+" the country would just not work.

Doesnt matter if you think its stupid, pretty much everyone tips delivery drivers, I mean they are also wearing out their car for their job.

I was lucky enough to have a job where I was the dishwasher and a backup driver, so I still got paid like 9 dollars an hour plus occasional deliveries.

As my friend said when he was a pizza delivery person: Waiters just bring your food to a table at the restaurant. He brings it literally to your door. Why would you not tip him?

Rode around with him one day, we talked about stuff while he was going around w/ his deliveries. I remember one pizza he just left in the back seat for an hour while he picked up and delivered multiple other homes' orders. I asked about it, and he said the house that one was going to hadn't ever tipped him, on multiple occasions. :D

I hate paying a tip for delivery, so I always do carry out and drive there myself. I'd never get delivery and not tip, though.

This is probably true. Sometimes, especially on busier nights, it can take some time to get pizza. Some people may get mad because they wanted to faster, but I dont think most people call. The ones who do probably would have called, even if they got it in a reasonable time...

That didn't happen. He would have been canned on the spot.

For what? Taking over a hour to deliver a pizza? Nah shit happens all the time and I bet only a handful actually call up to complain about it.

It happened.
He wasn't canned, at least not anytime soon after that.
He left that job several months later, forget if he quit or was fired. Regardless, the threat of losing a pizza delivery job just isn't the dreadful repercussion you seem to think it is.

This is probably true. Sometimes, especially on busier nights, it can take some time to get pizza. Some people may get mad because they wanted to faster, but I dont think most people call. The ones who do probably would have called, even if they got it in a reasonable time...

Yeah at my brothes place you can get dominos to deliver to his place in as little as 20 minutes but its taken close to an hour before too. So yeah how busy they are and how well they know the area helps.

Yep. Like I have a friend who lives in like Themis weird area. Usually takes then much longer to find the area unless they know it pretty well...

Yes, people literally tip delivery drivers. Apparently, they enjoy doing that more than tipping cows. It's probably funnier, too.

The thing that cracks me up about people saying service employees shouldn't get paid more because they should "go to school" or "learn a trade" is that, well who do to want to serve you when you go to a restaurant or order delivery then? Obviously no one should do these terrible jobs that aren't worth good pay.
